I took an awesome and very informative nine hour walking tour of New York City with New York Tour1 (www.newyorktour1.com) and our fantastic guide Bobby. It was 94 degrees with almost 100% humidity but that didn't stop us from having a great time in The Big Apple. This video is Part 1 and covers Midtown Manhattan including Times Square, the Diamond District, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, Top of the Rock (with views of Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, and Freedom Tower), Radio City Music Hall, Bryant Park, New York Public Library, Grand Central Station, and the underground subway. Join me on this delicious New York City food tour! ►Check out my NYC food guide: https://goo.gl/xubRjU ►Get a t-shirt here: https://goo.gl/3dV4uu New York City is an incredible food city because of the diversity of the food available. On this New York City food tour we started off the day by going to one of the most famous restaurants in NYC, Katz's Delicatessen to eat pastrami. Next, we ate at a restaurants in New York City Chinatown called Spicy Village for an amazing pan of “Spicy Big Tray Chicken,” and for dinner I had chicken over rice from The Halal Guys, one of the most popular New York City street foods. 1:21 Katz's Delicatessen - There are few places in New York City for food as famous as Katz's Delicatessen, an absolute legendary deli in the city. Although it’s well overpriced, because it’s such a heritage NYC institution, it’s one of the must eat restaurants in the city. I arrived early in the morning, hoping to beat the crowds, which I did (go for breakfast if you want to avoid lines). After a little contemplation, I decided to go for the reuben with pastrami and a half of corned beef. The corned beef was alright, but the reuben with pastrami was incredible. Total price - $48.56 13:32 Spicy Village - Next up on this New York City food tour my wife and I walked around New York City Chinatown and eventually found our way over to a restaurant called Spicy Village (thanks to Monty for this recommendation). The one dish I mainly wanted to eat at Spicy Village was the Spicy big tray chicken, a pan of fried chicken parts and noodles in a spicy and mouth numbing broth. It was everything I had hoped for and more, and it was one of the best foods I ate in New York City! Total price - $22 - But along with the spicy big tray chicken we had an extra dish as well. 18:32 Times Square - One of the busiest and most recognized squares in the world is Times Square in New York City. So in the afternoon, happy and full of Spicy Village and Katz’s Deli, we walked over to Times Square to enjoy the people watching and the ridiculous amount of lights and action. 20:19 The Halal Guys - While walking through Times Square I remembered that one of the most popular New York City street food stalls wasn’t too far away. So we walked over to The Halal Guys, and I ordered chicken over rice. The chicken over rice itself is prepared pretty plain, but the flavor in The Halal Guys is all in the white and red sauce, both of which are incredibly flavorful and delicious. It was my first time to eat at The Halal Guys, and I’m pretty happy I did. Chicken over rice - $7 It was a great first full day in New York City with some incredibly delicious food. Probably my favorite dish of the day was the spicy big tray chicken from Spicy Village, but all the food was so food. Check out the Times Square episode of the "All Along Broadway" video tours of New York city. Watch the first three parts of this great series from New York Habitat: "Wall street" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwx_lo... ), "Union Square" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIUXvq... and "Madison Square" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqpyEd... ) Running the length of Manhattan and continuing into the Bronx, Broadway crosses through many of New York City's neighborhoods. Broadway runs diagonally north and intersects with most avenues. Times Square Times Square is definitely the most famous intersection, or square along Broadway. It is formed by the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue between 42nd and 47th Streets. It was named Times Square in 1904 after a newspaper, which you may have heard of called the New York Times, moved into a building on 42nd Street. New York's Times Square is known all over the world for its bright neon lights and digital advertisements on building walls, for its many stores open day and night and for its restaurants. In addition, the Theatre District located along Broadway just north of Times Square shows many of the newest and most famous stage performances. New Year's Eve Ball Drop The New York's New Year's Eve Ball Drop has become a worldwide attraction since its inception on December 31, 1907 when it was decided to substitute the fireworks, which were becoming dangerous to the public, with a bright ball descending along a pole in Times Square. ABC Television Studios -- 1500 Broadway The skyscraper located at 1500 Broadway is known for hosting the ABC Television Studios. Each morning at 6am. you can stand in front of the studios and you may see the hosts or one of the famous guests of the show Good Morning America. NASDAQ Building -- 4 Times Square Across the street from the ABC TV studios you cannot miss a bright skyscraper which houses the NASDAQ Market Site, with its large electronic screen that keeps you updated on about 3700 companies trading on the NASDAQ exchange. Hard Rock Café -- 1501 Broadway Along Broadway there are many restaurants, coffee shops, sandwich shops and places to eat, so you will never go hungry. But the most well-known place to eat here in Times Square is the Hard Rock Café. It offers good food and great music with a distinctive sound system. A great alternative to an expensive hotel room is to reserve a vacation rental instead. You can save a lot of money because vacation rentals are not only much cheaper than hotels, but are also equipped with full kitchens where you can cook for the whole family instead of going out to restaurants for each meal. New York Habitat ( http://www.nyhabitat.com ) has many furnished apartments http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/furnished , vacation rentals http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/vacation and rooms for rent all along Broadway and right in the Times Square area. To have a complete vision of all possibilities of renting check out our website http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment.html Check out this 1 Bedroom apartment in Midtown, Manhattan a perfect Vacation Rental choice (NY-12046) : http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment.html. This one bedroom apartment is located just blocks from Times Square, and is perfect to help you spend your vacation living like a true New Yorker. MTV Studios -- 1515 Broadway At MTV Studios in a building called "Astor Plaza". People from all over the world, come here and wait in line whenever a famous performing artist is due to arrive. Minskoff Theatre -- 1515 Broadway Broadway is known for its many theatres, commonly called "Broadway Theatres". Most of the theatres are actually located around this area, but not necessarily on Broadway. The Minskoff Theatre, also located in "Astor Plaza" is one theater on Broadway. Currently it is showing Disney Musical The Lion King. TKTS If you want to save on theatre shows, you can purchase your tickets at the TKTS booth in the middle of Times Square. Every day, Broadway theatres release tickets to be sold at cheaper prices than regular full price. I hope you enjoyed today's video tour in the series "All Along Broadway" of Times Square, New York! There is a lot more to discover along and around Broadway so please be sure to check out our Blog for other video tours: http://www.nyhabitat.com/blog/2010/08/11/times-square-new-york-video-tour-broadway/ If you know of any fun pit stops along Broadway, that we missed in today's video tour of Times Square, or have a favorite New York Vacation Rental that you have stayed in, be sure to leave a comment in the comment section below.

We continue our video tour of Broadway Avenue, heading north through Manhattan with our next stop being Union Square- a lovely spot to be on any given day in New York City! Broadway runs north to south, covering Bowling Green all the way to the top of Manhattan into the Bronx. Its' route covers many neighborhoods, one being the exciting Union Square -- one of the city's most popular meeting places for locals and travelers alike! New York Habitat http://www.nyhabitat.com presents "All Along Broadway", a video series where we will break down what each neighborhood has to offer! Our last episode, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwx_lomIrMw , focused on the Financial District so don't forget to take a look! Take a look at New York Habitat's blog, as well, for more info on our video of Union Square! http://www.nyhabitat.com/blog/2010/05/12/video-tour-union-square-new-york-city/ Union Square The actual history why it is called Union Square is from the simplicity of the intersection of Broadway and 4th Avenue. However, New Yorkers were very happy with such famed streets crossing, that they had to call it "Union" Square Union Square Park Re-designed in 1872 by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, who also designed the famed Central Park. Political and Social leaders array themselves amongst the park, one being the equestrian statue of George Washington in 1856, and the statue of Abraham Lincoln in 1870. James Fountain With a statue of Charity, emptying her jug of water aided by a child, the James Fountain has quite an interesting symbolic history. Known as a Temperance Fountain, which were created in the US in hopes that by having easy access to safe drinking water this would keep people from consuming alcohol. Statue of Gandhi Raised in 1986, the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, a non-violent social and political leader in India who inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world, is a representation of Union Square's history and devotion towards social activism. Metronome In the southern part of the square you will find a massive eye-turning wall sculpture that sporadically expels steam from the center-point. Created by Kristin Jones and Andrew Ginzel in 1999. It cost $4.2 million to construct and is one of the largest private commissions of public art in the US. The Passage Beside the Metronome there are 15 digits called "The Passage" which display the time in 24 hour format by the left side showing the time-meaning the hour, minutes, and seconds. The right, showing 7 digits representing the time remaining time we have left in the 24 hour day! Greenmarket & Holiday Market In New York's Greenmarket, established in 1976, you will be able to find fruit, vegetables, and other farms products in open market surrounding the Union Square Park. The Greenmarket is opened on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 8 am to 6 pm. You can always find an assortment of farmer-fresh local produce! The Union Square Market is also a great place to check out if you're in New York City during the holiday season! It is held from November 23 to December 24 and an array of different vendors from arts and crafts to jewelry made by local artists (which sports a jewelry store that creates jewelry made from preserved real-life orchids!) Shopping and Cuisine in and around Union Square There is an abundance of stores from fashion to bookstores! The Strand Bookstore being one of New Yorkers most prized possessions, which is located on 12th street and offers "18 miles" of both new and used books. There is also plenty of family fun including a bowling alley and game center on University Place at 12th street! New York Habitat offers many apartments all over New York http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment.html . Video host David Hill of New York Habitat ( http://www.nyhabitat.com ) takes you through the trendy East Village in New York City. This neighborhood is made for those who relish in diversity. Students and artists who attend New York University populate this area and you can experience an energetic atmosphere while visiting. You can find time to relax with a drink or two at McSorley's Ale House, the oldest bar in Manhattan or enjoy making your way through St. Marks Place. This three-block street is filled with history, stores, bars and restaurants. Plan your accommodation by searching New York Habitat's listed vacation rentals in New York ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/vacation ) and Bed & Breakfasts ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/bed-breakfast ). Check out what New York apartment rentals are currently available ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment.html ) and let us help you plan your stay. The streets aren't made of gold -- they are made of food in the East Village. Get a taste of what the East Village has to offer, and I mean that literally. New York Food Tours let you experience great tasting cuisine as you walk through the area. Take a look at this studio accommodation in the East Village (NY -- 4062): http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/vacation/4062 and see where you can rest after eating all that food. Tompkins Square Park located in the Alphabet City area of East Village (East 10th street and Avenue B) provides 10.5 acres of recreational space for socialites. There you can see the first Dog Run that was created in New York City as well as the Hare Krishna Tree. Another park found in the East Village is the East River Park. Running along the Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive and measuring at 57 acres (Montgomery Street to East 12th Street), you have all the space you need for what it is you like to do. Here is a 1 bedroom vacation rental in the East Village (NY - 15265): http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/vacation/15265 So what else is there to see in the East Village? Find a 15-foot steel cube created by Bernard Rosenthal called "The Alamo", located at Astor Place - give it a push to make it revolve. You can also visit the second oldest church in Manhattan, Saint Mark's in-the-Bowery, located at 131 East 10th Street. Learn more about other great New York City neighborhoods like Greenwich Village ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFa9ppu8fEY ) and Chinatown ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFOrThNwCh4 ). If you plan to extend your stay look through our available furnished apartments ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/furnished ). There is a lot more to discover in the East Village. To find out what other attractions are in the East Village take a look at our blog: http://www.nyhabitat.com/blog/2010/03/16/east-village-video-tour/

Hello and welcome to another video tour of a neighborhood in New York City by New York Habitat ( http://www.nyhabitat.com ). Today, we will be taking you on a tour of Dumbo, in Brooklyn, New York. This will be the first episode of our two-part series dedicated to this fantastic neighborhood. Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel ( http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=NewYorkHabitat&annotation_id=annotation_670785&feature=iv ) and do not hesitate to watch other great neighborhood video tours by New York Habitat, like these ones of SoHo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPflq6u9YWk ) and Union Square ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIUXvqrl-Mc ). The acronym "Dumbo" actually stands for "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass". This wonderful neighborhood is indeed found between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. You can walk or cycle across either to get to Manhattan in as little as 10 minutes. If you do not feel like walking, you can catch the F or C train, which both stop in Dumbo, and the 2/3 train station to Times Square is a little farther away in Brooklyn Heights. To cross the Brooklyn Bridge on foot from Dumbo to Manhattan, head to Washington Street, and you will find the underpass that will lead you up a stairway and bring you up onto the Brooklyn Bridge pedestrian walkway. No other spot in the city can beat views from Dumbo! From the Fulton Ferry Landing, practically underneath the Brooklyn Bridge, you can see downtown Manhattan skyscrapers, such as the Woolworth Building, but also boats coming in and out the harbor. For all the gourmets out there, the River Café, is a waterfront Michelin-starred restaurant, where the food is as fine as the view. During the 19th century, the Fulton Ferry Landing was the busiest spot in Brooklyn. It was named after the boat that shuttled residents to Manhattan, which actually was the only way to cross the East River until the Brooklyn Bridge opened in 1883). The Brooklyn Bridge Park, which is found right next to the Fulton Ferry Landing opened in 2010 and is the first section of what will be an 85-acre waterfront park. It is kind of hard to believe that these piers were all covered with abandoned warehouses a few years ago. Moreover, in July and August, the Brooklyn Bridge Park transforms into an outdoor cinema. The Tobacco Warehouse and the Empire Stores were built in the 1870s to hold dry goods to be loaded onto ships. This place was a major hub of both shipping and manufacturing. In fact, lots of goods were produced here in the 19th century, from beer, to boxes, to soap, and Dumbo played such an important role in New York City commerce at the time, that it was designated a historic district in 2007. Do not forget that the best way to discover this amazing neighborhood and to experience its thrilling atmosphere is to rent an apartment in Dumbo with New York Habitat ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment.html ). Whether you are looking for a furnished apartment ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/furnished ) or a vacation rental ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/vacation ) in Dumbo or somewhere else in Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens, you will always find the perfect place to call home away from home. Feel free to check out our blog, if you feel like learning more about New York City or Brooklyn. You will find many interesting articles, about New York" ( http://www.nyhabitat.com/blog/2011/06/16/video-tour-dumbo-in-brooklyn-new-york-part-1/ ). Thank you for joining us today. We hope you enjoyed the first part of our video tour of Dumbo, in Brooklyn, and look forward to your next stay in the Big Apple! New York is the birthplace of many things, but for today's purposes, we're sticking to pizza. Frank starts with a quick history lesson from Scott Wiener, the owner of Scott's Pizza Tours. Then, we hit the streets to see and taste the history for ourselves. The best thing about the city's pizza scene is that it's relatively young, so you can still eat slices from the ovens of the people that started it all and put New York pizza on the map. We meet the granddaughters of the man that literally brought pizza over from Naples, and even see the ovens that he used. Then, we hit all the best slices from Greenwich Village to Soho, and finish in Brooklyn at Luigi's Pizza, a place untouched by time. Welcome to another New York Habitat ( http://www.nyhabitat.com ) video! Today, we are going to get a little taste of one of New York's most famous neighborhoods, SoHo. The others video tours of New York Habitat are available, so feel free to discover other areas of NYC such as Times Square http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWFhe3xXSj0 or Greenwich Village http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFa9ppu8fEY You'll find SoHo in southern Manhattan just to the south of Greenwich Village. The boundaries of the heart of SoHo are roughly Houston Street to the north, Canal Street to the south, Crosby Street to the east and 6th Ave to the west. SoHo is a famous neighborhood to be the most fashionable areas in New York with its loft-style apartments, art galleries, and its diverse shopping. SoHo's Architecture and landmarks: Before we get into the modern day delights of SoHo, let's step back in history a bit. What is fascinating about this neighborhood is that it is the largest surviving cast-iron building district in the world. Many commercial buildings along Broadway and Spring Street feature this type of construction. Cast-iron's fire-resistant properties and strength made it possible to construct large building façades at less cost than comparable stone fronts. A great example of SoHo's cast-iron buildings is 28-30 Greene Street. Built in 1872, it's known as the "Queen of Greene Street". As you might know, SoHo is also well known for its loft style apartments. In the late 1800s, SoHo became an industrial district where workers toiled in dangerous conditions. Eventually, in the 1960s, as most of the commercial and manufacturing buildings were abandoned, SoHo was almost destroyed. As artists moved in, the district became populated with galleries and eventually SoHo became the center of the lower Manhattan art scene. Today, the area remains full of art galleries. Some of our favorite SoHo area lofts include: This one-bedroom loft apartment centrally located in SoHo on Prince Street (NY-9572) http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/furnished/9572 This amazing 3-bedroom vacation rental loft in neighboring Tribeca (NY-5278) http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/vacation/5278 New York Habitat provides a lot of apartments http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment.html all over New York. You can choose among several apartments types like vacations rentals http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/vacation , furnished apartments http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-apartment/furnished , and more. Galleries: Speaking of SoHo art galleries, be sure to check out Franklin Bowles Galleries (431 West Broadway) specialized in valuable works such as Rembrandt and Matisse, Chagall, Dali and Miro. Also, the Louis K. Meisel Gallery at 141 Prince Street is worth a visit. It claims to have the largest collection and available inventory of pin-up art in the world. If you'd like to get a taste of artsy loft living, take a look at New York Habitat apartments to find a great selection of furnished lofts that you can call home during your next trip to New York. SoHo Attractions: The New York Fire Museum - 278 Spring St.: An often-overlooked attraction in SoHo is the New York Fire Museum. You'll see an amazing collection of ladders, fire gear and fire trucks - including one of the oldest known fire engines in America, built in 1790. SoHo Piers along the Hudson River: If you're looking for some relaxation, head over to the SoHo Piers along the Hudson River. You'll find everything from golf and rollerblading to baseball and rock climbing. When the weather is nice, you can lounge on the grass of the park. Relax, you're in New York! Restaurants and nightlife: While you're out shopping, make sure to buy some fancy eveningwear because you're going to want to go out for some of SoHo's fantastic nightlife. Some of my favorites SoHo hot spots are: Balthazar -- 80 Spring St. S.O.B - 204 Varick St SoHo Park - 62 Prince St Bar 89 (be sure to check out the bathroom door!) - 89 Mercer St. Mercer Kitchen - 99 Prince St Raoul's - 180 Prince St If I've missed any of you're favorite SoHo activities, be sure to share them with us in the comments below. Well, I hope you've enjoyed our tour of SoHo. Of course, there's a lot more to see and do here. Be sure to check out New York Habitat's blog http://www.nyhabitat.com/blog/2009/06/19/tour-soho-new-york/ where you'll find more information about Soho.
