ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION So Into You

04:25
A largely but not entirely studio outfit, Atlanta Rhythm Section had been recording for most of the decade when this 1977 hit "So into you" was their breakthrough hit - reaching the Top 10 in America and the Top 30 here in Australia, where it received lots of radio airplay. An album released the next year, 'Champagne Jam' and its single 'Imaginary Lover' would see their success peak, before some disappointing releases and performance on the charts. 'So into you' typifies the M.O.R. Middle of the Road sound that was best classified as Adult oriented rock. Smooth, technically proficient and catchy radio fodder. It is a wonderful bookmark from 1977. ENJOY!

Partly Plugged Another eight years had passed since ARS had put out a studio album with new material. This time, to commemorate their 25th anniversary, three original members teamed with one holdover and two new players to put out an album combining the old and the new. Four new songs showed that ARS still had both their songwriting and playing skills in peak form. To capitalize on the popularity of the "unplugged" performance style of the time, ARS also revisited six of their classic songs. These versions demonstrate how ARS' music could be presented with different arrangements but still be as interesting and beautiful as the originals. The album kicks off with the powerful Voodoo and She Knows All My Tricks, which stand with the best of ARS' music. Child of the Video Age offers an interesting take on no longer being the young rebel, but the parent of one. The album is a showcase for the great talents of singer Ronnie Hammond and guitarist Barry Bailey. This is demonstrated both on the new songs and to fine effect on some classics, including Alien, So Into You, Angel and Do It or Die. Track listing 1. "Voodoo" (Buie, Hammond) -- 3:57 2. "She Knows All My Tricks" (Buie, Cobb, Hammond) -- 4:03 3. "I Don't Want to Grow Old Alone" (Buie, Hammond) -- 2:52 4. "Child of the Video Age" (Buie, Hammond) -- 3:40 5. "Alien" (Buie, Lewis, McRay) -- 5:16 6. "So into You" (Buie, Daughtry, Nix) -- 6:10 7. "Imaginary Lover" (Buie, Daughtry, Nix) -- 5:34 8. "I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight" (Buie, Daughtry, Nix) -- 4:25 9. "Angel (What in the World's Come over Us)" (Bailey, Buie, Nix) -- 5:41 10. "Do It or Die" (Buie, Cobb, Hammond) -- 3:40 Personnel • Barry Bailey - guitar • Dean Daughtry - keyboards • Ronnie Hammond vocals, background vocals • Angie Harrison - background vocals • Justin Senker - bass • Jan Smith - background vocals • Steve "Clean" Stone - rhythm guitar, slide guitar • R.J. Live at the Savoy, New York October 27, 1981 While this album wasn't released until 2000, it dates from almost 20 years earlier during the tour following the release of Quinella. It was recorded at a show at the Savoy in New York City, so the Southern band was playing to an urban Yankee audience. From that perspective, the warm support of the crowd is testimony to the group's broad appeal. While the sound isn't top quality, the energy of the band's performance and the collection of classic songs makes this a nice timepiece. The album provides a live coda to the era of ARS' greatest popular success, featuring a line-up of classic songs including a number of their hits and three songs from Quinella. From the rocking start of Champagne Jam through the new songs Homesick, Alien and Higher, and on to the classics Imaginary Lover and So Into You, this could be considered an ARS hits collection from 1981. It's a nice sampling, but only an introduction to a lot of great music to be found on their many albums. Track listing 1. "Champagne Jam" (Buie, Cobb, Nix) -- 5:17 2. "I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight" (Buie, Daughtry, Nix) -- 5:55 3. "Homesick" (Buie, Cobb) -- 4:54 4. "Alien" (Buie, Lewis, McRay) -- 5:51 5. "Large Time" (Bailey, Buie, Nix) -- 3:05 6. "Spooky" (Buie, Cobb, Middlebrooks, Shapiro) -- 5:13 7. "Higher" (Buie, Hammond) -- 5:09 8. "Imaginary Lover" (Buie, Daughtry, Nix) -- 3:39 9. "So into You" (Buie, Daughtry, Nix) -- 6:03 10. "Long Tall Sally" (Blackwell, Johnson, Little Richard) -- 3:08 Personnel • Barry Bailey - guitar • J.R. Cobb - guitar, vocals • Dean Daughtry - keyboards, vocals • Paul Goddard - bass • Ronnie Hammond - vocals • Roy Yeager - drums
