Driving Downtown Neighborhoods - Long Island City - Queens New York City New York USA - Episode 5. Starting Point: https://goo.gl/maps/UV3Dxu4Yx952 . Neighborhood: https://goo.gl/maps/Pmnqj8KUghm . Long Island City (L.I.C.) is the westernmost residential and commercial neighborhood of the New York City borough of Queens. L.I.C. is noted for its rapid and ongoing residential growth and gentrification, its waterfront parks, and its thriving arts community. L.I.C. has among the highest concentration of art galleries, art institutions, and studio space of any neighborhood in New York City. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Island_City Queens Queens is the easternmost and largest in area of the five boroughs of New York City. If each New York City borough were an independent city, Queens would also be the nation's fourth most populous city, after Los Angeles, Chicago, and Brooklyn. Queens is the most ethnically diverse urban area in the world. Queens has the most diversified economy of the five boroughs of New York City and is home to JFK International Airport and LaGuardia Airport. These airports are among the busiest in the world, causing the airspace above Queens to be the most congested in the country. Attractions in Queens include Flushing Meadows Park — whose Citi Field athletic stadium is home to the New York Mets baseball team — and the US Open tennis tournament; as well as Kaufman Astoria Studios, Silvercup Studios, and Aqueduct Racetrack. The borough has diverse housing, ranging from high-rise apartment buildings in the urban areas of western and central Queens, such as Jackson Heights, Flushing, Astoria, and Long Island City, to suburban neighborhoods in the eastern part of the borough such as Little Neck, Douglaston, and Bayside. Economy Queens has the second-largest economy of New York City's five boroughs, following Manhattan. As of 2003, Queens had almost 40,000 business establishments. Small businesses act as an important part of the borough's economic vitality with two thirds of all business employing between one and four people. Several large companies have their headquarters in Queens, including watchmaker Bulova, based in East Elmhurst; internationally renowned piano manufacturer Steinway & Sons in Astoria; Glacéau, the makers of Vitamin Water, headquartered in Whitestone; and JetBlue Airways, an airline based in Long Island City. Long Island City is a major manufacturing and back office center. Flushing is a major commercial hub for Chinese American and Korean American businesses, while Jamaica is the major civic and transportation hub for the borough. Sports Citi Field is a 41,922-seat stadium opened in April 2009 in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park that is the home ballpark of the New York Mets of Major League Baseball. Shea Stadium, the former home of the Mets and the New York Jets of the National Football League, as well as the temporary home of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants Football Team stood where Citi Field's parking lot is now located, operating from 1964 to 2008. The US Open tennis tournament has been played since 1978 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located just south of Citi Field. With a capacity of 23,771, Arthur Ashe Stadium is the biggest tennis-specific stadium in the world. The US Open was formerly played at the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills. in South Ozone Park is the home of Aqueduct Racetrack, which is operated by the New York Racing Association and offers Thoroughbred horse-racing from late October/early November through April. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queens https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g616325-Activities-Queens_New_York.html http://www.nycgo.com/boroughs-neighborhoods/queens

http://www.dedicrajko.com Long Island is an island in the southeast of the U.S. state of New York, just east of Manhattan. Stretching northeast into the Atlantic Ocean, Long Island contains four counties, two of which are boroughs of New York City (Queens and Brooklyn), and two of which are mainly suburban (Nassau and Suffolk). The term "Long Island" often refers only to Nassau and Suffolk counties in order to differentiate them from New York City, though all four counties are on the island and part of the New York metropolitan area

Sunday, May 7th, 2017 - Started out in Hells Kitchen, Manhattan and headed west to merge onto the Westside highway. Exited on 96th st and crossed Central Park into the Upper East Side. Drove up to the 110 st Manhattan Animal Care and Control(animal shelter) to check out the dogs. Made a few trips around the area to find parking. Left the animal shelter and proceeded South on 2nd ave to the Queensboro bridge and crossed over to Long Island City before getting on I495 to Long Island. Got off near Manhasset to check out North Shore Animal Shelter on Lewyt St. Decided to run some errands and take local roads back to NYC. Mainly used the Jericho turnpike/route 25 towards Queens, then back to Manhattan via Long Island Cit and the Queensboro bridge. Sporadic traffic, good weather until slight drizzle towards the end of the drive. Unable to find suitable dog during this trip.

A wedding in Long Island turned into a fun walking tour around New York City and a return home to New Jersey. Subscribe and Check out my other travel videos! Blog | http://www.aperezvoyages.com Instagram | Aperezvoyages Facebook Page | https://www.facebook.com/aperezvoyages Snapchat : APerezVoyages A beautiful wedding in Long Island made a return home more memorable than I anticipated. Although familiar places, it felt good to relive the experience in a new perspective. I'm also glad to visit my dad and make new friends also. Originally attending a wedding on a Friday evening, we left Wednesday evening for JFK took the AirTrain, E train, and 6 train to the East Village where we stayed at a friends house. On a rainy Thursday, we took the train up to The Museum of Natural History at Central Park as our starting point and worked our way down to Rockafeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Times Square, SoHo, the new World Trade Center site, Battery Park, Wall Street, and Pier 16 at the South Street seaport to see the Brooklyn Bridge before heading back to the East Village. Next morning we too the LIRR (Long Island Railroad) to Lindenhurst to attend a beautiful wedding at Chateau La Mer, which sits right on the water. On our final day, we took advantage of our time to catch the Train back to New York City and a bus to New Jersey to spend time with my dad and the rest of my family. It’s right below Roosevelt Island and next to the United Nations headquarters and has more history per square foot than most places in Manhattan. It’s origin dates back to the late 19th century when construction of an underground tunnel produced a tiny mound of rock that was originally named Belmont Island, after August Belmont Jr. who financed the construction project. In the intervening years it was leased by a Buddhist spiritual group, crashed into by numerous vessels, and briefly occupied by a protesting artist.

New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated U.S. state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub. Home to both the largest city and biggest state park in the country, New York provides residents with urban playgrounds and impressive natural amenities. While New York City garners much of the tourism attention, the rest of the state offers highly livable communities. New York City boasts one of the most expensive costs of living in the country, making it the ultimate challenge to find a place to live. Where you want to live — and where you can afford to live — depends on many factors. Neighborhoods vary in their perks and downfalls when it comes to price, commute distance, transportation access, nightlife, and other lifestyle amenities. The ranking determined the overall livability by weighing factors such as education, cost of living, crime rates, housing trends, employment statistics, and access to amenities. We’re here to show you that not only are there actually some really cool places in New York other than New York City, but, according to our analysis, there are quite a few that are a whole lot better. Here are the 10 best places to live in New York: 1. Mamaroneck, Westchester County. 2. Kensington, Nassau County. 3. Scarsdale, Westchester County. 4. Brookville, Nassau County. 5. Saratoga Springs, Saratoga County. 6. White Plains, Westchester County. 7. Tarrytown, Westchester County. 8. Rye, Westchester County. 9. Brighton, Monroe County. 10. New Rochelle, Westchester County. ================== Thanks for watching this video. I hope it's useful for you. https://www.expedia.com/Long-Island.d602887.Destination-Travel-Guides Long Island stretches eastward for 115 miles, from the New York boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens to the bluffs of Montauk Point. Take the short train ride from Manhattan to the sands of Long Beach, which for many is where Long Island begins. From here, Long Island’s protective barrier islands continue all the way to Westhampton Island. Halfway along the chain, visit Fire Island Lighthouse, which for generations of immigrants was their first glimpse of America. Many of those immigrants went on to create vast financial empires, and it was on Long Island’s northern shores where they built the mansions that would inspire F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic, The Great Gatsby. At the Cradle of Aviation Museum in nearby Hempstead, discover how Long Island launched generations of aviators into the wild blue yonder. Nearby, continue your flight into the past at the American Airpower Museum. In the mid 1800s, well-to-do New Yorkers were drawn to the unspoiled beaches of Long Island’s East End. Today, the pioneer settlement of Southampton Village is a place where history and style have blended as smoothly as the spirits in a Long Island Iced Tea. The past been also been beautifully preserved in nearby Sag Harbor, a historic whaling port immortalized in Moby Dick. Just a 30-minute drive east from Sag Harbor is Montauk, a place locals refer to as “The End”. America’s first president, George Washington, commissioned Montauk Lighthouse on Long Island’s easternmost point. Climb to the top to take in the sweeping views of this place that has played center stage in some of America’s greatest stories.

Over three centuries of shipping traffic in and out of New York have resulted in hundreds of shipwrecks off the coast of Long Island and New Jersey. These boats were the casualties of bad weather, heavy fog, fatal collisions, and even German U-Boat attacks during World Wars I and II. Their final resting place is known as "Wreck Valley," and local divers love to see what artifacts they can dig up from this sunken ship graveyard. Ok, so you’re considering trying out a ride share service like Uber or Lyft or you’ve been using one of the rideshare apps because you and a few of your friends want to go out for a night on the town for some dinner and some drinks and you’re doing the responsible thing by not drinking and driving or you just want to simply use one of the rideshare companies to get you to work or school because you want that dependability and a higher level of service than the traditional cab company or the overcrowded choice of public transportation. Whatever your reasons are I’m sure they are great reasons, but if you live on long island here in New York, that service you’ve grown to love and depend on…just might not be there for you…why? Stick around and I’ll explain. Manhattan Skyline and East River, New York City Waterfront, NYC 4K video The City of New York, often called New York City, is the most populous city in the United States. Located at the southern tip of the state of New York, the city is the center of the New York metropolitan area, one of the most populous urban areas in the world. With population of 8,550,405 distributed over a land area of just 305 square miles (790 km2), New York is also the most densely populated major city in the United States. A global power city, New York City exerts a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world. The East River is a salt water tidal estuary in New York City. The waterway, which is actually not a river despite its name, connects Upper New York Bay on its south end to Long Island Sound on its north end. It separates the borough of Queens on Long Island from the Bronx on the North American mainland, and also divides Manhattan from Queens and Brooklyn, which is also on Long Island. Because of its connection to Long Island Sound, it was once also known as the Sound River. The waterway is navigable for its entire length of 16 miles (26 km), and was historically the center of maritime activities in the city, although that is no longer the case. Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors, New York City consists of five boroughs, each of which is a separate county of New York State. The five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx, and Staten Island – were consolidated into a single city in 1898. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. Manhattan is often described as the cultural and financial capital of the world and hosts the United Nations Headquarters. Anchored by Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City has been called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world, and Manhattan is home to the world's two largest stock exchanges by total market capitalization: the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Many multinational media conglomerates are based in the borough. It is historically documented to have been purchased by Dutch colonists from Native Americans in 1626 for 60 guilders which equals US$1062 today.
