Russia superhighway: NYC to London by car a reality or pipedream?

01:28
Driving from London to New York City would be possible if Russia succeeds in building a superhighway spanning across the country with links to western Europe and Asia. During a March meeting, head of the Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin unveiled an ambitious plan called the Trans-Eurasian Belt Development, which entails constructing a superhighway and an accompanying high-speed railway. If the plan is realised, motorists will be able to drive from London to New York. Russia hopes the development will spur the economies of remote cities and towns. The Trans-Siberian Railway is about 9,000 kilometres long. According to CNN, a road trip from London to New York would cover about 20,777 kilometers. Yakunin said other infrastructure such as oil pipelines, power plants and water supply facilities will be built alongside the highway and high-speed railway. The mega highway system will face a multitude of difficulties, one of them being the connection to Alaska across the Bering Strait. Either a long bridge or a undersea tunnel would be needed. Money is likely to be another challenge. Russian Railways said the construction cost would amount to trillions of dollars. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Mother Russia From Alaska To The Kremlin! Great Song!

03:31
The song got viral in Russian youtube audience. It is a joke of course, but not quite! Brace yourself, America, Russians are coming to reclaim Alaska! The land was sold to USA by Russian Tsar about 150 years ago for something like $5.00 or so. It is now hot time to review the deal ))) The legendary leader of Donetsk resistance - Pavel Gubarev appears at the end of this video as a bonus surprise. He is the heart and soul of the rebel movement of the South-East of (former) Ukraine, fighting for independence from Kiev’s junta. He survived imprisonment but kept his spirit high despite the harsh treatment there, with all the beating up and torture, (at some point he went into a hunger-strike); but was eventually released (swapped) and remains a Hero of the Militia. About the reference to Jen Psaki at the beginning of the video: the talking red-head of the White House became extremely popular in Russia in a comical sort of way due to her constant bloopers, mistakes, incompetence and ridiculous anti-russian remarks. She is kind of a joke, or rather a Fool from Tarot, - a mind-controlled puppet, a clown of Washington. Enjoy the great spirit of the song and don’t worry to much about Alaska (yet). Novorossia should be sorted out first. Performed by Pyotr Matryonichev and Vika Tsyganova. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHsjrcOoHkM

Agafia. Hermit Surviving in Russian Wilderness for 70 years

52:07
More films about religion: https://rtd.rt.com/tags/religion/ Soon after this film aired, Agafia found a helper who has now been living with her for more than a year. Georgy Danilov, 53, is from Orenburg. He is an Old Believer. It was Agafia’s spiritual father who found and blessed her helper. Georgy has been doing the toughest chores for almost two years: he chops firewood, brings water from the river, and digs the vegetable garden. Agafia doesn’t always see eye to eye with Georgy. She views him as a novice and demands his full obedience and submission, which doesn’t always sit well with Georgy. Despite their differences, they try to find common ground. Apart from the main helper, volunteers and students from various Russian cities also come to Agafia’s hut to help her out. In the mid-17th century, the leader of Russia’s Orthodox Church, Patriarch Nikon, introduced radical reforms in Russia. Many couldn’t accept the changes and became known as “Old Believers”. To avoid religious persecution first from the Orthodox Church and then from the Soviets, families fled to some of the most remote corners of the world. In 1978, one such family was discovered by a group of geologists in the remote Russian Republic of Khakassia, Siberia. The Lykovs looked as if they belonged to a previous century: they dressed in homespun clothes and used primitive instruments in their everyday life. They were completely self-sufficient and still highly religious. Today, Agafia, 70, is the last surviving member of this family. When RT Doc filmmakers met her, she was in desperate need of a helper. They encourage her to write a letter to Old Believers everywhere in an attempt to find one. This letter, written in Old Slavonic language, is available on our site. The film crew also interviews Erofey Sedov, a former drilling geologist. He was one of those who discovered the Lykovs and told the world about them. He got to know them well and is now ready to share information that will make us see the familiar story of this family of hermits in a different light. But is any of it true? Paris New York Transcontinental 2009 - Clip 04 - From Paris to New York via the Bering Strait

09:16
http://www.pny2009.com Part 4 - Through Russia and Mongolia An extreme project for drivers both historical and historic An international team of drivers will start in Paris on October 1, 2008, and is estimated to reach New York by the middle of May 2009. They will venture east through Russia up to the outermost edge of Eurasia and thus try to be the first team to ever reach the Bering Strait with wheel-driven vehicles of their own accord. Then, in February 2009, it is planned to cross the Bering Strait by driving over the ice. Considering that the strait has not been completely frozen for years, a swimming system will be in use for security. In the case that the vehicles break through ice or in case of open expanses of water, the swimming system will bring them to the next accessible sheet of ice. Upon arriving the American continent, the third challenge will be waiting for the team. The participants of the expedition have set themselves the goal - which has never been achieved before - to drive from Wales to Fairbanks and reach it of their own accord with wheel-driven vehicles. Continuing its jouney from Fairbanks, the team will cross Canada, drive through the USA from west to east and finally reach New York. By then the Extrem Events team will have achieved three absolutely historical performances: Reaching Uelen / Russia of their own accord by wheel-driven vehicles Crossing of the Bering Strait First drive from Wales / Alaska to Fairbanks / Alaska along the northern coast The goals of this expedition are to promote CO2-neutral project balance, the worldwide use of renewable energies and energy efficiency. The team will drive around the world using only one mean of transportation.

From Apartment Life to Living on a Sailboat in Alaska! Sailing & Cruising Liveaboards

09:50
Megan and Rob are a pair of adventure seekers who are working hard to create the life of their dreams: living on a sailboat and exploring Alaska, working online and starting their own filmmaking company. All while continuing to actively explore their surroundings on bikes, in kayaks, in wetsuits, and hanging from climbing ropes. The couple bought a sailboat in April 2015 up in Juneau, Alaska and they've been living on it ever since. For the first couple of years they plan to stay docked in Juneau during the week so that Megan can work at her job as a dental hygienist, while Rob has already secured location independent online work, working for a soil and water testing company. Once they've paid down their student debt, and paid off the boat, they plan to sail around the world. For now, they explore on the weekends and when they're on vacation. They've made a lot of changes to their boat, a 1979 Cal 31 #10 hull, to turn it into a cozy little home. Megan sewed a canvas bimini top for their cockpit to provide shade, they installed flexible solar panels and a small wind turbine to create their own power, and they added a Kimberly wood stove to keep the boat toasty, warm, and dry in the winter months. Living on a sailboat isn't without it's challenges. The couple had no idea how to sail when they bought their boat, so they spent quite a lot of time during their first year afloat learning how to sail. They also say the cold weather can be quite challenging because the boat is always damp inside. It's important to be flexible and easy going in order to be successful at living aboard a sailboat, Megan says. You can't have too many expectations or be attached to deadlines. On a recent month-long trip, Venture Lives had beautiful adventures sailing to Skagway, Glacier Bay, and hiking the Chilkoot Trail. Megan and Rob have a YouTube channel where they share beautiful footage of their liveaboard adventures. The Alaska Purchase Explained

04:17
Here's the story of how the United States acquired Alaska. If you like these Story Time videos, please subscribe to my podcast! http://iammrbeat.podomatic.com. Music by Electric Needle Room. http://www.electricneedleroom.com. All images in the public domain. The decision to buy Alaska from Russia in 1867 has mostly been considered a good deal for the United States. The U.S. bought Alaska for $7.2 million, which in 2015 dollars is actually $180.5 million, and that still sounds like a good deal when you consider that the state produces $10s of billions of dollars worth of goods and services every year. However, at least one economist may disagree with that claim that it was actually a good deal. Here’s the story of the Alaska Purchase Once upon a time, there was a country called Russia that grew and expanded its empire across the North American continent. From 1733 to 1867, Russia colonized as far south as modern-day California and two ports in Hawaii. Their North American settlements were called Russian America. However, in 1856, Russia was broke and weakened after the Crimean War, and they also feared that Russian America might be an easy target for the increasing British settlers in British Columbia in any future war that might break out. Resources available there were increasingly less profitable, and plus, hardly any Russians lived there anyway. Therefore, they looked to get rid of Russian America by selling it to the United States. The American Civil War delayed the sale, but after the war ended, U.S. Secretary of State William Seward met in Washington with Russian Minister Eduard de Stoeckl to negotiate a deal. After staying up all night negotiating, the two agreed to a deal, signing a treaty at 4 a.m. on March 30, 1867, with the United States buying the territory for $7.2 million, or about 2 cents per acre. (50 cents an acre in today’s money due to inflation). The Senate approved the purchase on April 9th, and President Andrew Johnson signed the treaty on May 28th. Americans chose to call the area Alaska, an Aleut name. The land, an area over twice the size of Texas, officially joined the country on October 18, 1867. Some people were angry and in shock. These critics of the purchase of Alaska even famously called it “Seward’s Folly,” or “Seward’s Icebox,” basically saying that was a lot of money to spend for an area with not much to offer. They argued no one would be able to move there and it’d also be hard to control and defend, being so far away. Yet other Americans said it was a wise move, not just for the potential resources hidden there but for the potential to next try to take over British Columbia. After the purchase, pretty much all of the Russians who lived in Alaska moved back to Russia. Not many Americans lived there either. That is, until Joe Juneau discovered gold there in 1880, and Americans finally began to migrate there. Later they came for the oil, and today Alaska is a very desirable place for many Americans to live, so much more than just an “icebox.” Was the purchase of Alaska really a good deal, or did Seward actually get ripped off? For the past 125 years or so, most people have agreed that it was a very good deal. However, in 2009, David Barker, an economist at Iowa University, shook things up when he made the controversial claim that challenged that narrative. Barker claimed that the Alaska purchase wasn’t really that good of deal after all, and that the economic benefits from Alaska could have been there for the United States without having to control it all along. Ultimately, though, I see Alaska joining the United States as a fantastic thing. Without that happening, we likely today wouldn’t have one of my favorite shows on television- Alaska State Troopers. For that, we thank you, William Seward.

Alaska and Hawaii to pull out from USA

00:37
Alaska and Hawaii want to be liberated from the USA. The indigenous population of the two states requested the United Nations to consider their independence. The rebellious American citizens believe that Washington illegally "annexed" the lands of Hawaii. A US army base on Hawaii causes damage to ecology. In addition, when Russia sold the territory of Alaska to the USA, it did not mean that the States obtained sovereignty rights for the territory. A special association has been established for the struggle for self-determination. The purpose of the union is to hold a referendum on independence.

(HD 1080p) Alaskan Reflections, "Yellow" by Coldplay

03:58
Alaska, bordered by the Yukon Territory and British Columbia in Canada, to the east, the Gulf of Alaska and the Pacific Ocean to the south, the Bering Sea, Bering Strait, and Chukchi Sea to the west and the Arctic Ocean to the north. Alaska's territorial waters touch Russia's territorial waters in the Bering Strait, is the largest state of the United States with land area at 586,412 square miles, larger than all but 18 sovereign countries in the world. After 12 hours of flying, my wife and I flew into Fairbanks on the first day of our Alaskan vacation. It was almost midnight but the sun was still up. Fairbanks, only a few degrees south of the arctic circle, is the gateway to the wild Alaskan interiors, land of the midnight sun and the northern lights (aurora borealis). For the next three weeks, we traveled by train across the vast expanse of the Denali National Park and Preserve, six million acres of wild land where wild animals, large and small, roam unfenced lands, living as they have for ages (caribous, mooses, dall sheeps and brown bears). Visitors see the relatively low-elevation taiga forests give way to high alpine tundra and snowy mountains and raging rivers, culminating in North America's tallest peak 20,320' Mount McKinley! "Yellow" is a song by British alternative rock band Coldplay. The band wrote the song and co-produced it with British record producer Ken Nelson for their debut album, Parachutes (2000). The song's lyrics are a reference to band vocalist Chris Martin's unrequited love.
