Chelsea Market Food You Have to Try Now

01:36
Snacking and shopping addicts flock to Chelsea Market, New York’s most notable food hall. Boasting more than 35 vendors, the hot spot has whatever you're hankering for, including a steaming-hot cup of lobster bisque, perfectly aged cheese or a strong shot of espresso. But with so much to choose from, it's hard to choose just one (okay, or three) Chelsea Market foods to whet your appetite. That's where we come in! We ate our way through the many food sellers and crowned the five best things to eat at Chelsea Market. 1. Los Tacos No. 1: Start with one of the best taco joints in the city 2. Dickson’s Farmstead Meats: You can nab charcuterie or a house-made hot dog—save room! 3. Seed + Mill: Pick up fresh-ground tahini or halva 4. Dizengoff: Dip into hummus with fresh pita bread and Israeli salad 5. Creamline: Finish it all off with a sumptuous milkshake Still want more Chelsea Market food? Hit Bar Suzette for its French onion soup-inspired creation or opt for a sweet, Nutella and fruit-filled pancake. Seafood worshippers will go nuts inside The Lobster Place—a wholesale and retail fish market, which serves fresh and prepared meals like lobster roll and sushi. When you need to oblige your sweet tooth, hit the pint-sized Doughnuttery stand for mouth-watering bite-sized desserts. (You can watch the doughnuts come fresh off the conveyor belt and choose your own toppings.) Chelsea market also reps great restaurants like a rustic, classy spot called The Tippler. Happy eating! Time Out of Mind Official Trailer #1 (2015) - Jena Malone, Richard Gere Movie HD

Richard Gere delivers a soul-baring performance as George, a man whose struggle to find food and a place to sleep in New York City is beautifully captured with remarkable realism and heartrending compassion. Shuffled into the unforgiving bureaucracy of a men’s shelter, George seems destined to wind up as just another lost soul swallowed up by the system—until he meets a gregarious, down-and-out ex-jazzman (played by Broadway legend Ben Vereen) who inspires George to reconnect with his estranged daughter (Jena Malone). Cinematically stunning and shot in an eloquently observational style, Time Out of Mind is an unforgettable plunge into a world that is all too easily overlooked. NY Rangers at NJ Devils - The Timeout

03:20
Monday - October 05, 2009 In their 3rd game of the season (1-1-0 so far) the Rangers play a bitter rival away in New Jersey, the Devils. The Devils steal momentum early with a quick goal on a Ranger team showing a lousy, slack attitude. Just 1:24 into the game, Rangers head coach John Tortorella calls a timeout just shortly after Lundqvist is rammed after making a save. "I was just shocked as far as how we were playing in our own end zone, watching people play," Tortorella said. He ripped into the players in a fashion Rangers fans are not used to seeing. After slamming his fist repeatedly to get the point across, the Rangers spent their lone time out and went back out on the ice. Did they respond? Michael Del Zotto ties the game minutes later, and the Rangers manage to grind out a 3-2 win to improve their record to 2-1-0. * John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella John Tortorella New York Rangers New Jersey Devils Timeout Time out

Abandoned New York: Smallpox Hospital

03:16
In the 1850s smallpox was rampant in New York City. The epidemic caused the state of New York to build the first hospital devoted to the treatment of smallpox, The Smallpox Hospital. The hospital has now been abandoned for 70 years, with only its skeleton remaining Read Time Out’s guide to Roosevelt Island here: https://www.timeout.com/newyork/attractions/roosevelt-island James Renwick Jr., the architect who designed the smallpox hospital, also designed St. Patrick's Cathedral and St. Mary's Church in the Lower East Side. After serving for over 20 years as a smallpox hospital the state sold the building to the Catholic church, which turned it into a maternity ward. Check Out Time Out’s guide to the Most Beautiful building in NYC: https://www.timeout.com/newyork/things-to-do/most-beautiful-nyc-buildings Roosevelt Island was originally called Blackwell's Island in 1850. It mainly housed prisoners, the mentally ill and those suffering from smallpox. The Smallpox Hospital itself was built with prison labor. During the epidemic, smallpox claimed over 300 million lives, and in the densely populated New York City, smallpox was spreading fast. Here is Time Out’s list of the best abandoned buildings: https://www.timeout.com/newyork/blog/the-five-coolest-abandoned-places-in-new-york-city-051017 The Roosevelt Island Smallpox Hospital was the first hospital dedicated to smallpox in the United States. If you were found to have smallpox you were forced, by police, to wait out the disease on the island. The state of New York believed the “fresh sea air” of the East River (it was a different time) would help ease the symptoms of smallpox and make recovery easier. Now you can visit the ruins, but because of how unstable the structure is you can only view it from the outside. Jets call illegal timeout, nullify touchdown, lose game against Packers

01:26
The New York Jets called an illegal timeout to nullify their own game-tying touchdown in the fourth quarter Sunday and ended up losing to the Green Bay Packers. In the fourth quarter, down 24-31, Geno Smith on 4th and 4 connected on a perfect pass to Jeremy Kerley in the endzone to tie the game. Only problem, the official waved it off and said the Jets called timeout before the ball was snapped. Coach Rex Ryan, who is the only coach on the sideline that can call a timeout, said he didn’t call the timeout. The official had his back towards the Jets’ sideline when offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg ran towards Ryan yelling for him to call a timeout. That’s when defensive linemen Sheldon Richardson walked up to the official and whispered in his ear “timeout” causing the official to wave his hands and kill the play. The touchdown was nullified. The Jets ended up converting the 4th down play, but were unable to convert. The Packers ran out the clock and won the game 31-24. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Take Five - The Dave Brubeck Quartet (1959)

05:21
"Take Five" is a jazz piece written by Paul Desmond and performed by The Dave Brubeck Quartet on their 1959 album "Time Out". Recorded at Columbia's 30th Street Studios in New York City on June 25, July 1, and August 18, 1959, this piece became one of the group's best-known records, famous for its distinctive, catchy saxophone melody and use of the unusual quintuple (5/4) time, from which its name is derived. While "Take Five" was not the first jazz composition to use this meter, it was one of the first in the United States to achieve mainstream significance, reaching number five on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Singles chart. "Take Five" was re-recorded and performed live multiple times by The Dave Brubeck Quartet throughout the group's career. In addition, there have been various covers of the piece. "Take Five" has also been included in countless movies and television soundtracks, and still receives significant radio play. Upon his death in 1977, Desmond left the rights to royalties for his performances and compositions, including "Take Five", to the American Red Cross, which has since received combined royalties of approximately $100,000 per year. "Time Out" is a 1959 album by The Dave Brubeck Quartet, based upon the use of time signatures that were unusual for jazz (mainly waltz or double-waltz time, but also 9/8, and most famously 5/4). Although the album was intended as an experiment and received negative reviews by critics upon its release, it became one of the best-known and biggest-selling jazz albums, reaching number two in the U.S. Billboard Pop Albums chart. In 2005, it was one of 50 recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. The Dave Brubeck Quartet was a jazz quartet, founded in 1951 by Dave Brubeck and originally featuring Paul Desmond on saxophone and Brubeck on piano. David Warren 'Dave' Brubeck (December 6, 1920 -- December 5, 2012) was an American jazz pianist. He has written a number of jazz standards, including "In Your Own Sweet Way" and "The Duke". Brubeck's style ranged from refined to bombastic, reflecting his mother's attempts at classical training and his improvisational skills. His music was known for employing unusual time signatures, and superimposing contrasting rhythms, meters, and tonalities. Paul Desmond (November 25, 1924 -- May 30, 1977), born Paul Emil Breitenfeld, was a jazz alto saxophonist and composer born in San Francisco, best known for the work he did in The Dave Brubeck Quartet and for penning that group's greatest hit, "Take Five". He was not only one of the most popular musicians to come out of the West Coast's 'cool jazz' scene, but also the possessor of a legendary and idiosyncratic wit. In addition to his work with Brubeck he led several of his own groups and made significant collaborations with artists such as Gerry Mulligan, Jim Hall and Chet Baker. After years of chain smoking and general poor health, Desmond succumbed to lung cancer in 1977 following one last tour with Brubeck. Jane Lynch shares her craziest New York City experiences with Time Out New York

01:30
Jane Lynch has become a fixture on the small and big screens, working her way up from scrappy stage productions in Chicago to roles in Judd Apatow and Adam McKay movies and, most notably, on Glee, where her performance as the insult-slinging, tracksuit-wearing Sue Sylvester won her an Emmy and a Golden Globe. Now, after making her Broadway debut as Miss Hannigan in Annie two years ago, the 55-year-old is prepping for a live show at Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater. See Jane Sing! was born after 54 Below invited her to perform a cabaret set last spring, and the goofy, loosely plotted, upbeat show features Lynch and a few pals (fellow Glee-ster Tim Davis and The Office’s Kate Flannery) tackling everything from Broadway classics to hip-hop cuts. Visitors here can explore eight pavilions, a bamboo forest path, waterfalls, a koi pond and “Ghongshi scholar’s rocks,” a 15-foot rock formation inspired by Chinese poetry. Take a look at Time Out’s guide to the New York Botanical Garden: https://www.timeout.com/newyork/attractions/new-york-botanical-garden-guide In 2012 Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Gardens opened a new location, Hertigae Farms. The farm sells produce grown in the botanical gardens, supplying Staten Islanders with local, sustainable produce. They also offer classes on how to farm your own produce, composting and cooking sustainably. We’re all about that snug life. Here’s Time Out’s list of the best eco-minded restaurants in NYC: https://www.timeout.com/new-york-kids/restaurants/eco-minded-restaurants Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Gardens was the winner of Time Out’s 2016 Love Awards. Subscribe to our channel here: https://goo.gl/KpbUAP Erik Alden, managing director of Time Out Live, is neither of those things. But one thing he is? He’s game.
