Sunday, May 7th, 2017 - Started out in Hells Kitchen, Manhattan and headed west to merge onto the Westside highway. Exited on 96th st and crossed Central Park into the Upper East Side. Drove up to the 110 st Manhattan Animal Care and Control(animal shelter) to check out the dogs. Made a few trips around the area to find parking. Left the animal shelter and proceeded South on 2nd ave to the Queensboro bridge and crossed over to Long Island City before getting on I495 to Long Island. Got off near Manhasset to check out North Shore Animal Shelter on Lewyt St. Decided to run some errands and take local roads back to NYC. Mainly used the Jericho turnpike/route 25 towards Queens, then back to Manhattan via Long Island Cit and the Queensboro bridge. Sporadic traffic, good weather until slight drizzle towards the end of the drive. Unable to find suitable dog during this trip.

Driving Downtown Neighborhoods - Long Island City - Queens New York City New York USA - Episode 5. Starting Point: https://goo.gl/maps/UV3Dxu4Yx952 . Neighborhood: https://goo.gl/maps/Pmnqj8KUghm . Long Island City (L.I.C.) is the westernmost residential and commercial neighborhood of the New York City borough of Queens. L.I.C. is noted for its rapid and ongoing residential growth and gentrification, its waterfront parks, and its thriving arts community. L.I.C. has among the highest concentration of art galleries, art institutions, and studio space of any neighborhood in New York City. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Island_City Queens Queens is the easternmost and largest in area of the five boroughs of New York City. If each New York City borough were an independent city, Queens would also be the nation's fourth most populous city, after Los Angeles, Chicago, and Brooklyn. Queens is the most ethnically diverse urban area in the world. Queens has the most diversified economy of the five boroughs of New York City and is home to JFK International Airport and LaGuardia Airport. These airports are among the busiest in the world, causing the airspace above Queens to be the most congested in the country. Attractions in Queens include Flushing Meadows Park — whose Citi Field athletic stadium is home to the New York Mets baseball team — and the US Open tennis tournament; as well as Kaufman Astoria Studios, Silvercup Studios, and Aqueduct Racetrack. The borough has diverse housing, ranging from high-rise apartment buildings in the urban areas of western and central Queens, such as Jackson Heights, Flushing, Astoria, and Long Island City, to suburban neighborhoods in the eastern part of the borough such as Little Neck, Douglaston, and Bayside. Economy Queens has the second-largest economy of New York City's five boroughs, following Manhattan. As of 2003, Queens had almost 40,000 business establishments. Small businesses act as an important part of the borough's economic vitality with two thirds of all business employing between one and four people. Several large companies have their headquarters in Queens, including watchmaker Bulova, based in East Elmhurst; internationally renowned piano manufacturer Steinway & Sons in Astoria; Glacéau, the makers of Vitamin Water, headquartered in Whitestone; and JetBlue Airways, an airline based in Long Island City. Long Island City is a major manufacturing and back office center. Flushing is a major commercial hub for Chinese American and Korean American businesses, while Jamaica is the major civic and transportation hub for the borough. Sports Citi Field is a 41,922-seat stadium opened in April 2009 in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park that is the home ballpark of the New York Mets of Major League Baseball. Shea Stadium, the former home of the Mets and the New York Jets of the National Football League, as well as the temporary home of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants Football Team stood where Citi Field's parking lot is now located, operating from 1964 to 2008. The US Open tennis tournament has been played since 1978 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located just south of Citi Field. With a capacity of 23,771, Arthur Ashe Stadium is the biggest tennis-specific stadium in the world. The US Open was formerly played at the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills. in South Ozone Park is the home of Aqueduct Racetrack, which is operated by the New York Racing Association and offers Thoroughbred horse-racing from late October/early November through April. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queens https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g616325-Activities-Queens_New_York.html http://www.nycgo.com/boroughs-neighborhoods/queens

http://www.dedicrajko.com Long Island is an island in the southeast of the U.S. state of New York, just east of Manhattan. Stretching northeast into the Atlantic Ocean, Long Island contains four counties, two of which are boroughs of New York City (Queens and Brooklyn), and two of which are mainly suburban (Nassau and Suffolk). The term "Long Island" often refers only to Nassau and Suffolk counties in order to differentiate them from New York City, though all four counties are on the island and part of the New York metropolitan area

Long Island City, Queens, New York I explore Long Island City section in Queens, NY, taking the 7th train line from Manhattan and getting out Vernon-Jackson Av. I walk around Vernon Blvd. to explore a little bit of the neighborhood, then I head to the waterfront area, to visit Gantry Plaza State Park, famous for the Long Island sign, and the Pepsi Cola sign. Its a good spot to watch the Manhattan skyline, take pictures, do exercise, or see the sunset. Its perfect for getting out the crowded and busy Manhattan, and enjoy a nice and peaceful area. https://www.expedia.com/Long-Island.d602887.Destination-Travel-Guides Long Island stretches eastward for 115 miles, from the New York boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens to the bluffs of Montauk Point. Take the short train ride from Manhattan to the sands of Long Beach, which for many is where Long Island begins. From here, Long Island’s protective barrier islands continue all the way to Westhampton Island. Halfway along the chain, visit Fire Island Lighthouse, which for generations of immigrants was their first glimpse of America. Many of those immigrants went on to create vast financial empires, and it was on Long Island’s northern shores where they built the mansions that would inspire F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic, The Great Gatsby. At the Cradle of Aviation Museum in nearby Hempstead, discover how Long Island launched generations of aviators into the wild blue yonder. Nearby, continue your flight into the past at the American Airpower Museum. In the mid 1800s, well-to-do New Yorkers were drawn to the unspoiled beaches of Long Island’s East End. Today, the pioneer settlement of Southampton Village is a place where history and style have blended as smoothly as the spirits in a Long Island Iced Tea. The past been also been beautifully preserved in nearby Sag Harbor, a historic whaling port immortalized in Moby Dick. Just a 30-minute drive east from Sag Harbor is Montauk, a place locals refer to as “The End”. America’s first president, George Washington, commissioned Montauk Lighthouse on Long Island’s easternmost point. Climb to the top to take in the sweeping views of this place that has played center stage in some of America’s greatest stories.

Manhattan Skyline and East River, New York City Waterfront, NYC 4K video The City of New York, often called New York City, is the most populous city in the United States. Located at the southern tip of the state of New York, the city is the center of the New York metropolitan area, one of the most populous urban areas in the world. With population of 8,550,405 distributed over a land area of just 305 square miles (790 km2), New York is also the most densely populated major city in the United States. A global power city, New York City exerts a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world. The East River is a salt water tidal estuary in New York City. The waterway, which is actually not a river despite its name, connects Upper New York Bay on its south end to Long Island Sound on its north end. It separates the borough of Queens on Long Island from the Bronx on the North American mainland, and also divides Manhattan from Queens and Brooklyn, which is also on Long Island. Because of its connection to Long Island Sound, it was once also known as the Sound River. The waterway is navigable for its entire length of 16 miles (26 km), and was historically the center of maritime activities in the city, although that is no longer the case. Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors, New York City consists of five boroughs, each of which is a separate county of New York State. The five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx, and Staten Island – were consolidated into a single city in 1898. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. Manhattan is often described as the cultural and financial capital of the world and hosts the United Nations Headquarters. Anchored by Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City has been called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world, and Manhattan is home to the world's two largest stock exchanges by total market capitalization: the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Many multinational media conglomerates are based in the borough. It is historically documented to have been purchased by Dutch colonists from Native Americans in 1626 for 60 guilders which equals US$1062 today. On a rainy Thursday, we took the train up to The Museum of Natural History at Central Park as our starting point and worked our way down to Rockafeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Times Square, SoHo, the new World Trade Center site, Battery Park, Wall Street, and Pier 16 at the South Street seaport to see the Brooklyn Bridge before heading back to the East Village. Next morning we too the LIRR (Long Island Railroad) to Lindenhurst to attend a beautiful wedding at Chateau La Mer, which sits right on the water. But if you are not in a rush, you may get out of the high way at the last exit onto Van Dam Street and use 59th Street Bridge(Queens Borough Bridge) to save a few bucks plus enjoying more beautiful sceneries. New York has almost 130 miles of coastline, and pretty much all of it is found on Long Island, a hulking spine of glacial moraines that stretches from Brooklyn & Queens all the way east to Montauk. And from one end of this enigmatic isle to the other, a single type of shell-encased coastal inhabitant has fueled a century of industry, innovation, and culinary tradition here: Long Island oysters. In this episode of Food/Groups, we road-tripped "out east" from our Manhattan headquarters to rendezvous with born-and-raised Long Islanders who have deep connections to the slippery shellfish. From diving for wild oysters by hand on the North Shore and sustainably raising them on ocean-cleaning reef farms in the Great South Bay, to sucking the damn things down with some local beers, generations of Long Islanders have made mollusks a delicious way of life. The high confidence in forecast wind and snowfall led the National Weather Service to issue Blizzard warnings well in advance of the storm from the New Jersey shore all the way to Downeast Maine, including the cities of New York City, Boston, Providence, Hartford and Portland. Most of the warnings are in effect from Monday afternoon or evening through late Tuesday night. share MORE FOOTAGE AT -- Reblop.com -- http://reblop.com/snow-storm-juno-blizzard-2015-hits-long-island-ny-boston-massachusetts-new-jersey-more/ A blizzard with the potential to set all-time snowfall records bore down on the East Coast into the early hours of Tuesday, although the extreme forecasts appeared to have been scaled back somewhat. The meteorologist in charge of the National Weather Service office for South Jersey, New Jersey and Philadelphia, Gary Szatkowski, issued a public apology on Twitter early Tuesday, saying the storm was a "big forecast miss" for most of the region. Szatkowski tweeted a map showing reduced forecasts for snowfall amounts, followed by a handful of apologetic posts. "You made a lot of tough decisions expecting us to get it right, and we didn't. Once again, I'm sorry," he tweeted. People from New York City to Boston have been prepared for the possibility of 30 inches or more of snow, while meteorologists used words like "historic" and "crippling" to describe what lay ahead. Governments in the Northeast planned snow removal efforts and adjusted public transportation schedules in preparation for the storm. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced in a press conference that driving would be banned in 13 New York counties. All public transportation, including subways, will be closed at that time too, he said. "This is a serious situation, if you violate this state order it's a possible misdemeanor, it's fines up to $300," the governor said. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio also announced a travel ban on NYC streets for non-emergency vehicles starting at 11 p.m. ET. The city plans to use 7,000 National Guard troops, 760 plows and 50,000 pounds of salt in cleanup efforts, Cuomo said. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie announced via Twitter on Monday night that New Jersey would also be instituting a travel ban—for the whole state—beginning at 11 p.m. ET.
