Blood in the Mobile is a 2010 documentary film by Danish film director Frank Piasecki Poulsen. The film addresses the issue of conflict minerals by examining illegal cassiterite mining in the North-Kivu province in eastern DR Congo. In particular, it focuses on the cassiterite mine in Bisie. The film is co-financed by Danish, German, Finnish, Hungarian and Irish television, as well as the Danish National film board. The film premiered in Denmark on September 1, 2010. During the making of the film Frank Piasecki Poulsen is working with communications professional and new media entrepreneur Mikkel Skov Petersen on the online campaign of the same name. The campaign is addressing Poulsen and Petersens notion of the responsibility of the manufacturers of mobile phones on the situation in war torn eastern Congo. The project is collaborating with NGOs like Dutch-based Make It Fair and British-based Global Witness who are also engaged in changing the conduct of Western companies regarding the industrial use of minerals of unknown origin. The cassiterite dug out in the illegal mines in North-Kivu is according to Danish corporate monitor organization Danwatch primarily purchased as tin by the electronics industry after processing in East Asia. Apart from trying to raise awareness of the issue of illegal mining and alleged lack of corporate social responsibility from the mobile phone industry, the campaign is an attempt to experiment with new ways of building an audience and create additional funding for documentary films. The production of the film and the campaign is run in association with Danish new media company Spacesheep, founded in 2009 by Poulsen and Petersen in association with major Danish independent TV and film production company Koncern.

http://www.engvid.com/ Practice speaking on the phone with me, Emma! Do you know how to speak on the phone? Do you feel nervous talking on the phone? In this survival English video, I teach you common expressions to use on a phone call. By learning these expressions, your telephone conversations will become clearer and you will understand more. You can practice these expressions by taking our quiz. http://www.engvid.com/speaking-english-how-to-answer-the-phone/ TRANSCRIPT Hello. My name is Emma. And in today's lesson, we are going to be learning some important telephone expressions. Okay? I know a lot of students get very scared when they have to talk on the phone, and it's understandable; it can be very scary when you can't see the person's face when you're talking to them. So one great idea if you're afraid of talking on the phone in English is to memorize key expressions that we use all the time. This way, it will improve your listening, you will know what people will probably say on the phone, and your speaking will improve too. All right? Now, in this video, we're actually going to practice these expressions together. In my pocket, I have my cellphone. All right? So what is going to happen is I will teach you an expression, and then I will pretend to be on the phone, you can pretend to be on the phone too. I will say something, and you say the correct expression to me. All right? So, if you don't understand, that's okay - you will in a moment. Let's get started. Now, when somebody calls you... "Ring, ring, ring, ring" First thing you say is: "Hello?" As in a question. "Hello?" All right? And then what happens? The person who's calling asks a question. They can do this in different ways. I've listed four different ways, the most common. Sometimes they'll say: "Is __________ there, please?" "Is Emma there, please?", "Is Daniella there, please?" "Is Yvonne there, please?" Okay? A very common way. And notice: "please", very important to be polite. You can also say: "This is __________" - Emma - "calling for _________." Whoever you're calling. So, if I'm calling you, I might say: "Oh, hello. This is Emma calling for Daniel", "This is Emma calling for Joseph.", "This is Emma calling for Pete." Okay? So this is a common expression, especially if you're at work, this is the one we would use a lot at work. This one is a little more informal; you'd probably use this one more if you're calling your friends or calling someone in not a business situation. This is also another informal one: "Is __________ in?" So all of these blanks are the name of the person who the caller wants to speak to. "Is Emma in?", "Is John in?", "Is Mary in?" Okay. So, again: "Hello. Is Mary in?" Informal. Last one: "May I please speak to __________?" Emma. "May I please speak to Mary?", "May I please speak to the doctor?" All right? This one is more formal. So we have sort of formal/informal, formal, informal, and last one, formal. All right, so let's get your phone out. All right? Whether you have a real cellphone or your hand, and let's practice a statement. So you're going to be calling me. You're going to use one of these expressions. Pick whichever one you want and practice it. All right? Let's get started. "Ring, ring, ring, ring." "Hello?" Perfect. All right? So you can watch this video again and again; practice, practice, practice until you have it memorized, until it is easy for you. All right, now how do I respond or how..? How does the person you're calling respond? If you say: "Is Emma there, please?" I would say: "Speaking." Which means: "Yes, it's me, it's Emma." I wouldn't say that, I would just say: "Speaking." Or I could say: "__________ speaking. How can I help you?" [SM1]"Emma speaking.", "Emma speaking. How can I help you?" "This is __________." [SM2]"This is Emma." Or: "This is he.", "This is she." All right? So again, these represents the... The name of the person. This... These blanks are names. All right? So let's try one. I want you to pick any of these. All right? Now, I'm sorry - there are so many of you, I probably will not pick your name when I ask this question. So today, I am going to call you all "Bob". I'm sorry if that's a problem, but today, you are Bob. All right? So I want you to either say: "Speaking.", "Bob speaking.", "This is Bob." Just for practice. All right. So get your phone ready. "Ring, ring, ring, ring" So you say: "Hello?" And I say: "Is Bob there, please?" What do you say? Good, very good. All right, so let's learn some more expressions. Okay, great. So we've gone through the first part of a phone call. - "Hello, is Emma there, please?" -"Speaking." All right? Now what? What if someone calls you and you pick up, but they're not looking for you; they're looking for your brother, they're looking for your mother, they're looking for someone else - what do you say?

How to Effectively Communicate over the Phone? Effective communications over the phone require clarity of speech, knowing what you want to convey, and a willingness to engage with someone using good listening skills and prompts. This article provides some of the basics required to effectively communicate during a phone call. 1.Answer the phone specifying who you are. It can be disorienting for a caller when they don't know with whom they're speaking. Try to have a bright, happy voice when answering too, as this gets the conversation off to a good start. 2.Speak clearly. Pronounce your words well and try to avoid mumbling, gushing, or speaking too quickly. If the person on the other end is hard of hearing or speaks a different language from your own, speak slowly and either raise your voice or speak more clearly than usual. 3.Use words that make sense to the person you're speaking with. It doesn't make a lot of sense to speak teenspeak with an elderly grandmother. She isn't necessarily going to "get it". Adjust your language to fit the listener. 4.Use good & descriptive language when you are trying to evoke images in the listener's mind. If you need to describe something well, try to choose words that identify its shape, color, size, etc. 5.Write down important points before making a call. If you're worried that you'll forget something when you call someone, or that you'll get tongue-tied and not say what you meant to, write a prompt sheet before the call and keep it in front of you. Refer to it if you get flustered during the call. 6.Repeat important points during a call.

British phone essential launch: still revealed MIA in the USA. Essential, founded, endorsed and blessed by Andy Rubin, seems to be all about ambition. If such ambition translates into reality it is perhaps the biggest question haunting the launch and its first product, the essential PH 1 smartphone. It has now come to light that Essential is laying the groundwork for launching the phone in the UK this year, which is not surprising. What is surprising is that it is pushing through even while the essential phone is still absent in its first market: the US. 30 days. That's supposedly how long it would take to send the phone. Those 30 days have come and gone already and it's been two weeks since that promised date. While delays are not unusual in this industry, Essential's silence on the subject does not exactly represent an image of professionalism. Then comes the news that Essential executives are busy creating deals with operators in the UK, like EE, to carry the phone through the pond. Again, nothing wrong with expansion, which is necessary to keep businesses running. What is rubbing people in the wrong way is that it is already trying to expand, although it has yet to deliver a product that some have already paid in advance. That's not to say that the Essential phone is the smart phone to die this year. True, its almost non-bezel design is attractive, if not a little strange, and its promise not to bloatware, even from a vendor like Sprint, is something that many Android users are dying for. But aside from that, analysts think that it would cost a lot to stand out from the Galaxy S8 and the iPhone 8 this year. In fact, some flatly say that the essential thing is to simply ride in the tail of Rubin's popularity. The Essential phone is not the only ambition of the company. He practically plans to create an ecosystem of smart products, and the essential phone is just a part, not the center, of it. It has already revealed the first of a set of accessories intended to simply attach to the phone and draw power, but not data, from it. Essential also has a smart home center in the works that is powered by its own operating system. The only thing you do not have yet is a real shipped product.

The owner of British luxury phone maker Vertu has failed to rescue the company from bankruptcy after offering to pay creditors just £1.9 million ($2.4 million) of the firm’s £128 million debt. The result of this — according to reports from The Financial Times and The Telegraph — is that Vertu’s UK manufacturing operation will be shut down, leading to the loss of some 200 jobs. Exiled businessman Murat Hakan Uzan bought the company in March, after it had been sold and re-sold by a number of investment vehicles. Uzan, who was once a prominent businessman in his home country of Turkey, is currently living in Paris, and will retain ownership of Vertu’s brand, technology, and design licenses.

Tredegar Comprehensive School and Gwent Police (Gwent is located in south-east Wales,UK) present a half hour drama entitled 'COW' --The film that will stop you from texting and driving," with SPECIAL EFFECTS BY ZIPLINE CREATIVE www.ziplinecreative.co.uk (this is a trailer video) COW: Its all about Cassie COWan a nice girl from a Gwent valleys family who kills four people on the road because she used her mobile and lost her concentration for a few seconds. Gwent police is proud to have helped Brynmawr filmmaker Peter Watkins- Hughes in the production, which stars local drama students Jenny Davies as Cassie, and Amy Ingram and Laura Quantick as her friends, Emm and Jules. It is hoped this film will become part of the core schools programme across Wales and the UK and ultimately worldwide. Gwent Police facilitated the films crash scenes because we want to stop ALL drivers, but particularly young and new ones, from causing accidents. Over 300 teenagers from all over Wales were auditioned to take part in the film, nine police vehicles were involved and both the police and air ambulance helicopters featured. State of the art digital special effects were utilised to show the impact of what would happen inside the car during impact. Lyn Samuel, School Liaison Coordinator for Gwent Police said: We worked closely with the production team including the University of Wales Newport, Tredegar Comprehensive School and local partners including the council and Probation Service. The result is a very impactive road safety educational tool to help reduce the number of collisions involving young drivers across Wales. Chief Inspector John Pavett from Gwent Police Roads Policing Unit hopes the serious message in this film will hit home to viewers: Making and receiving calls and texting whilst driving is still happening on roads not just in Gwent but all over the country" Seeing a scenario, like the one Cassie goes through, played out right before your eyes makes you realise how extremely dangerous it can be and what devastating consequences it can have. I hope that after watching this film motorists will think twice before picking up their mobile phone when behind the wheel and realise that a quick reply to a text message or answering a phone call is never worth putting theirs and other peoples lives at risk. It should be noted that here in Wales, we use the word "taster" instead of "teaser" as we're giving you a "taste" of what the full 30-minute video is like. This is a terrific story from the show Britain's Got Talent. The audience has little expectation for this cell phone salesman, Paul Potts, until he brings them to their feet with an amazing performance of an extremely difficult opera song - Puccinis Nessun Dorma. Within two minutes, Paul shows more emotion than all the contestants combined. I'm not into opera but even I had to watch this video a number of times. Biography: Paul Potts was raised in Fishponds, Bristol, by his father Roland, a bus driver, and mother, Yvonne, a supermarket cashier. Paul has two brothers and one sister, and attended St. Mary Redcliffe school where he first developed his love of singing. In the interview that was broadcast before his performance in the semi-final, Paul stated that he had trouble with being bullied in school, and that it may have had an influence on his lack of self-confidence. Until June 19, 2007 Potts worked as a manager at the Bridgend Carphone Warehouse, a mobile phone store around 8 miles from his home town. On June 9, 2007, Potts' audition of Simon Cowell's new search-for-a-star show Britain's Got Talent was televised on ITV in UK. The actual audition was held at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff on March 17, 2007. Paul sang a condensed version of Giacomo Puccini's "Nessun dorma", which impressed the judges and received a standing ovation from the audience of 2,000 people. In the semi-final on June 14, 2007, Potts performed main verses of "Con te partirò" with praise from the audience and judges.

Good evening my friend. First off, I hope that you like my new intro ^_^ The previous one that I had wasn't that great in my opinion so I decided to change it to something a little bit more light. I have a question for you. Did you know that I was raised speaking English with a British accent for many years? In high school it was actually strictly forbidden to pronounce things with an American accent which I thought was nonsense. I always used to say to myself, when I'm older I am going to speak English in the way how I want to speak the language and that's what I did ^_^ Tonight however, we're going to see how much is left of that British accent education since I am going to give it my first attempt at a British accent, after years of not giving it a serious attempt and it'll be combined with some gentle and super soothing ASMR nail tapping on my new phone that I got last week. I hope no body is going to think that I am trying to make fun of the British accent but I wouldn't blame people for doing so :P. In my opinion, it sounded pretty ridiculous at some points in the video but that's okay. Everyone needs to have a good laugh at least once a day ;) :P I am open to constructive feedback & criticism, especially from my UK viewers so please let me know if you enjoyed it :) If so, I can always try to improve my accent by making more videos with the British accent ;) Much love Ilse Check out this video without whispering if you do not like talking videos. https://youtu.be/FHT7VTELJH8 Waterdrop in the beginning of the video can be found here: https://www.videezy.com/members/jaymiller ◆ My wonderful fiance Chris, digital media producer, did the editing of the audio. Motherboard spends a day with Martin Cooper, the father of the first ever portable, handheld cell phone. If I were the brains behind a revolutionary invention that would reshape the world as we know it, I’d brag about it to everyone, but not before rubbing it in the face of my fiercest competitor. And that’s almost exactly what Martin “Marty” Copper, inventor of the cell phone, did when he created the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X, the world’s first ever handheld portable telephone. It was 1973 and Marty was walking through the streets of New York as journalists faithfully watched him make the first handheld mobile phone call to none other than AT&T’s cellular network engineer and chief nemesis in the cellular race, Joel Engel. Marty revealed to us that when Joel picked up there was silence at the other end of the line, “I suspected he was gritting his teeth,” Marty says with a light-hearted smile and a grain of cheekiness. After that moment, our way of communicating as a society—from butt-dials to GIF texts—would never be the same again. The World Health Organization once described cell phones as “possibly carcinogenic” but that hasn’t hindered cell phones from overtaking our planet’s total population; making Marty’s legendary creation a hallmark of modern man’s innovation akin to that of the wheel. The cell phone was mainly born out of a dissatisfaction with the constraints of the car phone. Early on, Marty and his associates at Motorola knew the future of telephony lied in mobility. Up until 1973, mobile cellular telephony was tethered to vehicles. Placing and receiving calls from a car was a game-changer at the time but Marty disliked the idea of having to be in a car in order to make a call on-the-go. “Freedom means you can talk anywhere,” he says. The forefather of mobile communications hasn’t stopped looking forward. His vision of future cell phones range from personal servers implanted in our bodies, to artificial intelligence and the obsolescence of apps. At one point in our interview, Marty breaks the fourth wall, addressing our cameras directly: “Instead of us looking for the app, the app ought to find us,” he says with a glint of eureka in his eyes. As we celebrated his past innovation and joked about today’s relentless mobile connectivity, it was clear that 86-year-old Marty Cooper had a zest for the future that was undeniable. After all, that’s where we’ll spend the rest of our lives, in the future, probably hunched over our cellphones.
