Some HP motherboards actually contain some hidden advanced setup options for configuring smart fan settings, CPU/System fan stall warnings, and quite a few other things. To access this advanced BIOS setup utility, you can press CTRL+F10→CTRL+F11 when you first see the HP/Compaq splash screen. It may take a few tries to get in. NOTE: This won't work with all HP motherboards, only some. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- When posting comments, please abide by the appropriate comments policy. Skip to 04:10 to bypass all the talking. Clearing the CMOS on your motherboard will reset your BIOS settings to their factory defaults. After clearing the CMOS, you'll need to access the BIOS setup utility and reconfigure your hardware settings. You might need to clear the CMOS for several reasons but usually you'll want to clear the CMOS to help troubleshoot or solve certain PC problems like hardware compatibility issues. Sometimes you will have to remove the battery to fully clear the settings. Many modern motherboards are starting to come with a power, reset, and clear cmos button built right into the board. Those are easy and you won't require the steps I showed you here. Just press and hold one of those buttons down, with the machine off but plugged in. You might need a standard PS2 keyboard instead of a USB keyboard temporarily. After resettingthe BIOS it is not set to use the USB during the boot up. You need the old style keyboard to plug into the purple port on the motherboard. After you get into the BIOS enable the USB ports.

This tutorial demonstrates how to launch the built-in BIOS utility to change the boot order of your devices on your computer. If you are looking to set the primary boot device to a usb flash drive/stick or CD/DVD follow these steps. If you ever want to change these settings back, you can do so following the keyboard shortcuts located in the BIOS. Remember to always save your changes before closing out of the utility. To boot from a CD, DVD or USB device, make sure that the device has boot sequence priority over the hard drive. BIOS (Basic Input Output Subsystem) is a programmable chip that controls how information is passed to various devices in the computer system. A typical method to access the BIOS settings screen is to press ESC, F1, F2, F8 or F10 during the boot sequence. BIOS settings allow you to run a boot sequence from a floppy drive, a hard drive, a CD-ROM drive or an external device. You may configure the order that your computer searches these physical devices for the boot sequence. The first device in the order list has the first boot priority. For example, to boot from a CD-ROM drive instead of a hard drive, place the CD-ROM drive ahead of the hard drive in priority. Before you set boot priority for a USB device, plug the device into a USB port. To specify the boot sequence: 1. Start the computer and press ESC, F1, F2, F8 or F10 during the initial startup screen. Depending on the BIOS manufacturer, a menu may appear. 2. Choose to enter BIOS setup. The BIOS setup utility page appears. 3. Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT tab. System devices appear in order of priority. 4. To give a CD or DVD drive boot sequence priority over the hard drive, move it to the first position in the list. 5. To give a USB device boot sequence priority over the hard drive, do the following: Move the hard drive device to the top of the boot sequence list. Expand the hard drive device to display all hard drives. Move the USB device to the top of the list of hard drives. Save and exit the BIOS setup utility. 6. The computer will restart with the changed settings. 7. Boot Priority Options Some computer manufacturers allow you to select the device that contains the boot sequence from a special device selection menu. The example below uses a Dell system board. To set boot priority using a device selection menu: 1.When the computer starts to boot up, after the manufacturer's ID screen, press F12 several times. The device selection menu appears. 2. Use the up and down arrows to select CD-ROM or an USB Flash Drive. 3. To boot from the selected device, press ENTER. Note: Using an incorrect BIOS setting can cause a system malfunction. Please follow the BIOS guide provided with your computer motherboard. If you read these instructions and you are not sure how to change a setting, it is better to leave it as the default setting. This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 operating systems.Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).

Changing the boot order on a PC is mostly done in order to boot from a recovery disk or from an OEM disc to run some kind of Windows repair software On a Dell machine it's usually F2, Toshiba is F1 or ESC, HP is F1 or F2 to start up in the BIOS.

If you have any questions or requests for tutorials, post a comment or pm me. Additional Information: Don't mess around in your BIOS unless you know what you're doing!! Change your boot order back to your hard drive as the first device when you're done booting from a disk. You can also boot from floppys or thumb drives, just put what ever device you want ahead of your hard drive. Remember, not all computers use the same key to get into the bios. This is most commonly done for installing a OS.

What is UEFI Firmware ? UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) Secure Boot is the boot path validation component of the UEFI specification. It will store embedded validation signature code of the applications like boot loader and drivers etc. Also it will block unknown or bad certificates and application. How ever the signature only verified in the boot stage. The user can enable or disable the UEFI secure option to legacy BIOS compatibility mode with bios setting. Which means, like its older operating system as well as helps to control all the operations, for example Windows 7, XP, Linux, Ubuntu etc.. Windows 8 and windows 10 are not build with old established bios, after the windows 7 all newly build in operating systems are developed with UEFI Firmware . This is not a tutorial. Hardware : -Motherboard Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R rev2. 0 -Ram: kingston KHX1600C9D3K3 2gbx3 -Graphic card: nvidia Geforce 310 (temporary) -PSU: Antec 400W (just to turn on computer, temporary) This video shows how i solved a NO POST problem of the motherboard. The problem: When I turn on the computer all the fans (CPU and GPU) run correctly but there aren't any beep (the POST doesn't work) and there isn't video output on the monitor. Due to the lack of video output, I tried to change the graphic card but the problem still remained. The solution: The problem was related to the cmos battery (CR 2032). Changing it, the motherboard come back to life (the video shows the first attempt to turn on the computer). Hope this video could help other people! Have a nice day!

This video has been created with a modern PCI-ISA POST-card for port 80h. The 3Bh on this mobo is meaning "POST complete, booting from the first boot device" and stays after boot. After normal/regular shut down, computer would not boot BIOS, would not display POST screen at all. All i get is Black screen. Motherboard powers every component, ventilators are all on max, debug LED shows error code 88. I tried almost every trick in the book to get computer back to life, but at the end did not succeed. This is what i have done so far: - removed every component one by one until only CPU and MBO were left - tested with different PSU - tested with different GPU - tested with different RAM - tested every RAM socket combination - tested with another BIOS battery - reset BIOS with few different combinations - leave MBO without BIOS battery for 36hrs - tested CPU alone with different MBO This is my computer configuration: ------- CPU: i7 920 MBO: Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME RAM: 3x2GB 1600MHz Corsair TR3X6G1600C9 6GB KIT VGA: BFG 9800GT 1GB PSU: Corsair 750TXEU -------
