http://www.expedia.com/San-Francisco.d178305.Destination-Travel-Guides Leave the regular world behind when you step into the fog-swathed “City by the Bay.” From shopping adventures in Union Square to a trip on the city’s legendary cable cars, a trip to San Francisco is bound to leave you with incredible memories. Stop by Fisherman’s Wharf and indulge in its shops and galleries, as well as some of the best fresh seafood you’ll ever taste. Walk on the Golden Gate Bridge and take in the fresh sea air and views of the bay and Pacific Ocean. If it’s a more serene environment you’re after, pass through the stately architecture and flowing lagoon of the Palace of Fine Arts. Of course, San Francisco sightseeing isn’t complete without an excursion to Alcatraz, the island prison that once held some of the country’s most notorious criminals. Look into its empty cells and thick stone walls and wonder, could you escape “The Rock”? San Francisco, everyone’s favorite city, is located at the tip of a peninsula between the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific coast. A compact city of steep rolling hills surrounded on three sides by water, San Francisco is renowned for its summer fogs, Victorian architecture, cable cars and beautiful vistas. Just remember: Don’t call it Frisco and do bring warm clothing. The famous quote “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco” isn’t from Mark Twain but it is a pretty accurate statement of San Francisco’s weather. An overview of the top tourist attractions in San Francisco.

Watch more How to Visit San Francisco videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514486-Top-8-Places-to-Visit-San-Francisco Planning a trip to San Francisco? Learn about the top eight places to visit and what makes them special in this travel video. Tip: For the best view of San Francisco, make the steep climb to the top of Telegraph Hill. San Francisco is full of world-famous tourist attractions. The Golden Gate Bridge is almost synonymous with San Francisco. This iconic art deco suspension bridge is easily one of the most famous bridges in the world. Whether you walk or drive, crossing it is a must. Fisherman’s Wharf is another of San Francisco’s most famous attractions. It might be considered a tourist trap, but there’s always plenty to do, whether you want to shop or visit one of the city’s more unique museums. If you get hungry, the Ferry Building isn’t far away. The food at this gourmet market will satisfy any foodie’s craving. San Francisco also boasts several beautiful parks. Dolores Park is small but lively, with a great view of the Mission neighborhood. Lincoln Park is much larger and more rugged, though the park is also home to a golf course and the Legion of Honor museum. There’s also the Yerba Buena Gardens, where you can see the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Fountain while you enjoy the fresh air. But the Presidio is the most impressive park in the city. The view of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge can’t be beat. For the best view of San Francisco itself, you’ll have to make the steep climb up to the top of Telegraph Hill. But San Francisco’s diverse and vibrant beauty can be seen from anywhere in the city.

"San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)" is a song, written by John Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas, and sung by Scott McKenzie. It was written and released in June 1967 to promote the Monterey Pop Festival. McKenzie's song became an instant hit. The lyrics tell the listeners, "If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair". Due to the difference between the lyrics and the actual title, the title is often quoted as "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)". "San Francisco" reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, and was number one in the United Kingdom and most of Europe. The single is purported to have sold over 5 million copies worldwide. The song is credited with bringing thousands of young people to San Francisco, California during the late 1960s. In Central Europe, young people adopted "San Francisco" as an anthem for freedom, and it was widely played during Czechoslovakia's 1968 Prague Spring uprising against Soviet rule. The song has been featured in several films, including Frantic, The Rock and Forrest Gump (Wikipedia).

Get more Tips here! www.destinationtips.com Today we check out some don't do's of San Fran, based on www.sftravel.com's article. Don’t pack a tropical wardrobe; the mercury hovers around 60 degrees even in summer. Don’t park on a hill or even a slope without cramping your wheels to the curb, setting the hand brake and putting the car in parking gear. It’s the law. Don’t stand directly behind a cable car gripman; you’ll get the wind knocked out of you when he jerks back on the brake lever. Don’t send for an ambulance if you hear a chorus of moans, groans, grunts and wails, it’s the foghorns. Don’t carry a milk pail to Cow Hollow; the old dairy district west of Van Ness Avenue has become a popular shopping sector. Don’t call cable cars trolleys; they’re powered by the moving steel cable you hear humming in the slot beneath your feet. Don’t plan to go swimming in San Francisco Bay unless you’re a member in good standing of the Polar Bear Club. Don’t board a public conveyance without exact fare; the drivers don’t make change. Don’t be caught without an umbrella; the coastal mists are capricious. Don’t color the bridge over the Golden Gate gold; it’s International Orange. It’s ’”the city by the bay” not “the city on the bay” Above all, don’t call it “Frisco” or “San Fran.”

When a long layover leaves you with hours to spare at the airport in San Francisco, break free from the terminal and go on an adventure. Because the city is overflowing with personality and attractions, you won’t run out of things to do in San Francisco in a day. Sitting on the coast of Northern California, San Francisco is perhaps best known for its magnificent Golden Gate Bridge. Bike across to experience it up close, or hike to Lands End to view it against the cityscape. When it comes to getting to know the city’s neighborhoods, each nook has it owns flavor. Nob Hill boasts an upscale vibe, Fisherman’s Wharf serves the freshest clam chowder, and Haight-Ashbury clings on to its 1960s hippie culture. One day in San Francisco could mean marveling at the city’s colorful Victorian homes called “painted ladies,” braving the eerie prison on Alcatraz Island, or even visiting the Coit Tower. However you decide to spend your 24 hours in San Francisco, the city is sure to dazzle. From figuring out why they call it Fog City to riding the famous cable cars, you’ll be glad you didn’t spend your layover in the terminal. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on social media: TWITTER: twitter.com/expedia FACEBOOK: facebook.com/expedia INSTAGRAM: instagram.com/expedia GOOGLE+: plus.google.com/+expedia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on our travel blog, Viewfinder: Viewfinder.expedia.com

Do you want to visit the best places in San Francisco? Lots of research went into creating this San Francisco travel guide with the most unique attractions, things to do, best places to visit and foods to eat for San Francisco. Subscribe to my channel ► https://bit.ly/2aeuh9b for weekly videos! To really admire the city and get a good panoramic view drive to the top of Hawk Hill on the northern side of the Golden Gate bridge. I went for a bike ride along Fisherman's Wharf with my long lost friend Serge, who I just to jam with in Tokyo back in 2007. We had dinner at the Eagle Cafe at Pier 39 and ordered San Francisco's most famous soup: Lobster Bisque, truly unbeatable! No trip to San Francisco is complete without dropping by the Painted Ladies at Alamo Square park which used to be part of the intro of the Fullhouse TV series. One of our funniest finds was this Yoda Fountain next to the Lucasfilm studios, a true destination for any Star Wars nerd. I truly believe that the best way to explore San Francisco is to visit most attractions by bicycle, it can be quite challenging at times, due to the steep streets, but it will be well worth once you go down Lombard Street, the crooked street in the world! Another interesting spot was the wooden Burning Man temple at Patricia's Green park in the center of the city which was covered in lots of writing, love declarations and autographs. Surprisingly, I found this Dutch windmill at the most western tip of Golden Gate park surrounded by lots of tulips. The weather in San Francisco can be hit-or-miss, which truly sucks if you want to get great outdoor photos at all its scenic destinations, so do have some indoor events planned as an alternative. I highly recommend: Musee Mecanique, Mirror Maze, Fisherman Wharf's fish market, Eagle Cafe, Alcatraz and Exploratorium for all your indoor activities. We visited on 22nd June 2013 to Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, California. Some of the stunning views captured in this video. I would like to share with you all the moments of experience. The Crooked Street is on of the famous street where it is very steep and we experience almost vertical road downhill. The whole city is with steep ups and downs. I feel every one should visit once here. We learnt how great experiences give us happiness, how travelling through the golden gate bridge is thrilling and how wonderful it was really.

Watch more How to Visit San Francisco videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514488-Best-Time-to-Visit-San-Francisco Planning a trip to San Francisco? Learn about the best time of year to visit in this travel video. Tip: If you want to save money, winter is a great time to visit San Francisco. It will be windy and rainy, but the temperatures rarely approach freezing and storms are unusual. It’s possible to enjoy San Francisco year-round, but you might want to consider the city’s unusual weather when planning your trip. In any season, San Francisco’s temperature rarely gets lower than 50 degrees or higher than the mid-70s. Summers are usually chilly, with daily highs often below 70. Fog keeps it from getting sunny for most of the day and winds coming off the Pacific will make you shiver. If you have your heart set on the beach, San Francisco isn’t for you. Summer brings the disadvantages of crowds and higher prices due to tourism. Spring will be better in terms of crowds and prices, but don’t expect dry, warm, comfortable days. If you don’t mind carrying an umbrella, winter is a great time to visit San Francisco. It will be windy and rainy, but it rarely actually freezes and storms are unusual. Except around the holidays, San Francisco receives the fewest visitors in the winter, so it’s the least expensive time to visit. But the very best time to visit is in the fall, which is often the warmest and sunniest season. Fall is also outside of peak tourist season, making it less expensive and less crowded. Whenever you visit, you’ll need to bring a jacket. Even in the warmer months, it tends to get cold quickly as evening sets in. The unique weather is just one of the things that makes San Francisco such an interesting place to visit.

In this San Francisco travel video guide, I travel to San Francisco, California, one of the most scenic cities in the United States, if not the world. In town for a conference for only four days, only one of which was going to be sunny, I headed out to see as much as I could in a day. I started my day by visiting the Haight-Ashbury district, San Francisco's most famous neighborhood. Ground zero for the Summer of Love, this neighborhood's bohemian past is still evident as you walk around the area, though things have changed quite a bit. Next I headed to the Mission District, San Francisco's "It" neighborhood right now. Home to a large and varied immigrant population, cheap rents have lured many a young and hip individual to the area, evidenced by the artisanal chocolate shops, used book stores and proliferation of coffee shops. There are also great taco shops here. I visit Taqueria Cancun and El Toro to see which I liked best. Then I hopped on a boat to get a unique view of the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, which we sailed under, then traveled past Alcatraz Island and Angel Island. Wrapping things up, I walked through the Presidio for a pilgrimage to Lucasfilm, complete with a Yoda fountain, then hiked one of the Presidio's many trails to get a great view as the sun set over the bay. * The host, Matt Stabile, of this video is the founder and editor-in-chief of the travel site http://www.TheExpeditioner.com. He also served as Director, Editor and Foley Artist for this production.

Watch more How to Visit San Francisco videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514487-Top-8-Museums-to-Visit-San-Francisco Planning a trip to San Francisco? Learn about the top eight museums and what makes them special in this travel video. Tip: If you're traveling with kids, the interactive exhibits at The Exploratorium are educational, fun, and safe for even very young children. San Francisco’s museum scene is among the world’s best, in terms of both variety and quality. The two Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco -- The de Young Museum & The Legion of Honor -- shouldn’t be missed. The de Young contains one of the best collections of American art around. The Legion of Honor, has an excellent collection of European art. The Rodin sculptures are not to be missed. Visit the Asian Art Museum to see one of the most extensive collections of Asian art in the world. Art and artifacts from a vast number of Asian cultures spanning thousands of years of history can be seen here. On the other hand, the Contemporary Jewish Museum doesn’t keep a collection at all. This museum focuses on exhibitions, so there’s always something new and current. But San Francisco’s museums aren’t restricted to art. One of the city’s best museums is the California Academy of Sciences. This extensive natural science museum has an aquarium, a rainforest exhibit, a planetarium, and much more. The Exploratorium is another great science museum -- geared towards kids. The interactive exhibits are educational, fun, and safe even for very young children. The Mechanical Museum is another interactive museum. Play one of the hundreds of old-fashioned penny-arcade games in the collection. Finally, visit the Cable Car Museum to learn about the history of San Francisco’s cable cars and how they work. San Francisco’s museums bring everyone closer to an understanding of life in San Francisco and beyond.

Watch more How to Visit San Francisco videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514485-Top-7-Neighborhoods-to-Visit-San-Francisco Planning a trip to San Francisco? Learn about the top seven neighborhoods to visit and what makes them special in this travel video. San Francisco is a relatively small city, which is lucky for visitors because there’s a lot to see. There’s Nob Hill, which has long been one of San Francisco’s wealthiest neighborhoods. If you can afford it, stay in one of the luxurious, historic hotels. If you can’t, pass through to see the grandeur instead. The Mission district is known for being the heart of San Francisco’s Latin American community. It’s also a great place to go bar-hopping or find a delicious, inexpensive meal. North Beach is known as San Francisco’s Little Italy. Come here to relax in a cafe and enjoy the old-fashioned European atmosphere. Right next to North Beach is the much more lively Chinatown. San Francisco’s Chinatown is both the oldest and largest Chinese community in North America. It’s still thriving today as a destination for both tourists and locals. One of San Francisco’s more famous neighborhoods is the Haight district. There are lots of unique clubs and stores in the Haight, but it’s also a great place for people-watching. Not far from the Haight is the Castro district. This is America’s oldest and largest Lesbian and Gay community, and it’s one of the liveliest places in San Francisco. Finally, it might be touristy, but a trip to San Francisco is incomplete without paying a visit to Fisherman’s Wharf. Not all of the restaurants are chains, and there are enough museums to suit anybody’s interests. San Francisco is such a diverse city, every neighborhood offers a glimpse of a different culture and way of life.

A visit to the largest island in San Francisco Bay: Angel Island. On an unusually warm December day. With the exception of a small portion that is a U.S. Coast Guard Station, the entire island is a California State Park. We arrive and leave by ferry, and take a "tramlapse" tour around the island, stopping at about 13 different points of interest, including some very good views and a bit of history, too (my first ever "tramlapse" video). We'll even briefly teleport over to the Golden Gate Bridge. There are several editing mistakes that snuck through in a few places, oh well... Maybe we'll have a contest to see who can find them all. In our Alcatraz Tour video you get an exclusive sneak peek into Alcatraz, with tips on getting the most out of every minute on the renowned island Stand at the edge of Fisherman's Wharf and look north, and Alcatraz Island is there, a menacing terminus with its concrete prison structure stacked on top of cliffs pounded by the cold and often brutal waters of the San Francisco Bay. Foreboding as it once was when it served as a maximum-security facility, today it's an icon of San Francisco and one of the city's most popular attractions for visitors. Located just over a mile offshore in the San Francisco Bay, the site began its life as a military reservation in 1850 under orders from President Fillmore. By 1858, it had evolved into a military garrison and was used to house prisoners of war as early as 1861. In 1907, Alcatraz was officially determined a long-term military prison, and it became a federal maximum security prison in August 1934. During its operation, "The Rock" housed some of the worst offenders in the country, including Al Capone, George "Machine Gun" Kelly and the nation's first "Public Enemy Number One," Alvin Karpis. Because of operating costs and environmental damage to the buildings, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy ordered Alcatraz closed in March 1963, and today it's a national park, open to the public. Most important? Buy your tickets in advance, and don't forget your camera. $30/ages 12+, $28.25/seniors age 62+, $18.25/children ages 5-11, free/children under 5.
