Texas tax fraud convict jailed for five years for illegally voting in 2016 election denied retrial
A Texas woman who was sentenced to five years in prison in March for casting a ballot in the 2016 presidential election while ineligible to vote has been denied a new trial. Crystal Mason, a 43-year-old tax fraud convict from Rendon, Texas, voted in the 2016 election while on supervised release - unaware that she was ineligible under a state law that says felons are only allowed to vote after they have fully completed their sentence. Mason was slapped with a hefty five-year prison sentence in March of this year, and on Monday the same judge denied her request for a new trial. The mother-of-two says she plans to challenge the decision. 'Right now, I'm very overwhelmed with all this. Everything is a shock, you know? Everything,' Mason told CBS this week. Mason, a tax preparer, pleaded guilty to tax fraud in 2011 and was sentenced to five years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. Shortly after she was released from prison in 2016, her mother convinced her to go vote in the presidential election - a decision that she now regrets. 'I'm wishing that I never voted. That's how I'm wishing. I'm wishing that I never ever went up there to vote.' At the polling place Mason was required to sign an affidavit which lists requirements for voting, including that convicted felons can have their voting privileges restored after fully completing their sentences. Mason said she didn't thoroughly read the affidavit because the election worker had been helping her fill the form out. Election workers soon discovered that she was a convicted felon and she was arrested in February for voter fraud. During her trial testimony, Mason said that no one had told her she had to wait until her supervised release was over before she could vote. 'She was never told that she couldn't vote, and she voted in good faith,' Mason's lawyer J Warren St John said in court. 'Why would she risk going back to prison for something that is not going to change her life?' Judge Ruben Gonzalez handed down a five-year prison sentence in March and denied Mason's request for a retrial this week. She is now planning to file an appeal. 'One of the things that we are going to complain to the appellate court is that this law really isn't clear,' Mason's defense attorney Alison Grinter said after the request for a retrial was denied. Mason's defense team also says that the sentence is far too strict, citing a similar case in Iowa in which a woman was only sentenced to two years on probation.

Stunning Aerial Videography and Photography Using Drones: Last year I volunteered my services to the Little Elm Police Department to honor fallen police officer Jerry Walker who was killed in the line of duty. Today, it is one of the most significant contributions that I have made with my drone business to this date, with over 100,000 views from around the world. Our goal with drone photography is to show what has not been seen. With this candle light vigil drone photography we were able achieve that. We provided a perspective on the world from points we cannot easily reach, the heavens (where Jerry is). Anchor Exposed Hypocrite Texas GOP Rep who voted against Sandy Relief Live on air
Anchor Exposed Hypocrite Texas GOP Rep who voted against Sandy Relief Live on air Randy Weber (R-TX) was one of the 22 members of the Texas delegation that voted against federal funding to help states in the northeast after Superstorm Sandy hit in 2012. Now he’s begging for help from those he once voted against helping. In an interview with CNN’s Jim Acosta, Weber parroted the excuse used by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) Monday during an MSNBC interview. Weber claimed that the funding bill was “loaded with pork,” referring to pork-barrel spending. The term comes from a metaphor about pork-fat that refers to local projects that have nothing to do with the bill itself, but are added on to get members to vote in support. “I was very clear at the time that there was additional measures thrown in that bill,” Weber alleged. He cited Smithsonian Institute costs, parks and $1 million in upgrades and build a highway in the Virgin Islands. However, a fact check of that refutes the charge. The $60 billion funding legislation came in two parts at the end of 2012 and beginning of 2013. The first was a $9.7 billion increase in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) ability to borrow flood relief. The second funding bill came in Jan. 2013 with $50.5 billion in aid for individuals whose homes were damaged as well as businesses who experienced heavy losses. It helped replenish shorelines, repair subways and commuter rails, bridges, tunnels and reimbursed cash-strapped municipalities for liquidating their emergency spending. As the Washington Post notes, only nine Republicans voted with Democrats to pass the final funding bill for Sandy survivors. Now, the chickens are coming home to roost for Texas Republicans who played politics in a desperate time of need. As those political leaders clamor are now in the position those in the northeast were then. The Congressional Budget Office published a detailed report (PDF) about where the funding went and virtually none went to pork-projects that had nothing to do with Sandy. The storm itself stretched from the Caribbean all the way to New York and New Jersey as well as Washington, D.C. The Smithsonian Institute suffered serious roof leaks from heavy rain and wind, which damaged the roof as well as priceless artifacts inside the building. The Post explained the shoreline near Launch Pods 39A and B at the Kennedy Space Center suffered serious erosion, putting the ocean less than a quarter of a mile away. They used $15 million to help build a sand barrier and repair the facility on Wallops Island in Virginia. There were no funding items that went to the Virgin Islands even listed. “What we understand from looking into this this morning, there really wasn’t very much pork at all in that bill,” Acosta told Weber. “There had been a couple of fact-check reports to come out just today saying there wasn’t really much of any pork in that legislation. There was some additional spending on other items, but it was very small, with respect to and compared to the vast majority of that funding, which did go to disaster relief. Are you hopeful this time that people don’t play politics with this sort of thing?” Weber said he was optimistic his colleagues wouldn’t throw the vote against Sandy funding in his face. “In a perfect world, obviously, things are thrown into bills you don’t like,” Acosta followed up. “In hindsight, though, do you think you should have voted for that Sandy legislation, and do you maybe have convincing to do with some colleagues have to look some colleagues in the face from up in the northeast and say, ‘look, I know I voted against this back then but I need your help now?” Weber could only say he’d have that discussion with his colleagues but thinks most of them would understand. Texas High School Enforces Sick New Ban, So Outraged Students Call In The Feds
A group on Texas High School cheerleaders have won a court case in the Texas Supreme Court to continue to display Bible verses on their banners. Their 6-year saga began when in 2012 the school superintendent received a complaint from the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation and as a result, the school district ordered the team to stop displaying the Bible quotes immediately. So the cheerleaders took matters into their own hands and did what all of us Americans should be doing when our First Amendment right to free speech is being trampled on. They took the fight all the way to the Texas Supreme Court. And they won. In January of 2016, the Texas Supreme Court unanimously voted in favor of the cheerleaders, but the battle didn’t end there. The liberal activists took the case all the way to the Liberal 9th circuit court of appeals, where in September of 2017, they actually backed the Texas Supreme Court’s decision. The normally far left wing liberal appeals court ruled the cheerleaders’ rights to display Bible quotes was “private speech” and because of this, it should continue without issue. Here is more via The Dallas News: “Texas cheerleaders can display Bible verses at high school football games, a state appeals court ruled Thursday. The Ninth Court of Appeals sided with students from Kountze High School, who sued after the district barred Christian messages from cheer banners at football games. The cheerleaders’ choice to display Bible verses is protected as “private speech,” the appeals court ruled. “We are pleased that once again religious liberty is vindicated and that cheerleaders across the state of Texas have the right to have religious messages on banners at high school football games,” Hiram Sasser, general counsel of the Plano-based conservative nonprofit law firm First Liberty, wrote in a news release. “No school district should be able to censor, ban, or claim ownership of the private religious speech of its students.” Since their legal fight began in 2012, the Kountze cheerleaders have received widespread support from Texas’ top Republicans, including Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, Attorney General Ken Paxton and Gov. Greg Abbott. The cheerleaders were previously defended by James Ho, whom President Donald Trump nominated to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday, and First Assistant Attorney General Jeff Mateer, who has come under fire after videos surfaced of him describing transgender children as evidence of “Satan’s plan” and warning that same-s*x marriage would lead to polygamy and bestiality. Mateer, who left First Liberty in 2016 to join the office of the attorney general, was also nominated to the federal bench this month. The case dates back five years, when district officials banned cheerleaders in the southeast Texas school district from displaying banners with Christian themes. The move was made after the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a nonprofit that advocates for the separation of church and state, complained the banners resulted in a publicly-funded school district endorsing a specific religion. District officials later decided to allow the banners, but retained the ability to control their content. A district court judge sided with the cheerleaders in 2013. But the appeals court soon after said their lawsuit was moot due to the district’s policy change. Eventually, the case was kicked up to the Texas Supreme Court, which remanded it back to the appeals court last year. The court’s ruling this week found that since cheerleading is not related to the “pedagogical concerns” of the district, the banners did not amount to “government speech.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ◆ Latest news videos: https://goo.gl/BmTYua ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ★ CONNECT WITH US ★ ◆ Google+: https://goo.gl/HHKysp ◆ Email: quylao0711@gmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Videos can use content-based copyright law contains reasonable use Fair Use (https://www.youtube.com/yt/copyright/)

Gun Confiscation Bill For Texas
Gun Confiscation Bill For Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott headlined the Texas GOP Convention in San Antonio at the end of a week in which school police chiefs, gun-control activists and an alliance of U.S. education groups pushed back on parts of his wide-ranging safety recommendations after the Santa Fe High School shooting. The plan calls for arming more teachers, mental health spending and "hardening" campuses with extra police or metal detectors. Also mentioned are potential "red flag" laws that keep guns away from people deemed a danger to themselves or others, which is a non-starter for some gun-rights groups and firebrand conservatives in the Texas Legislature.
