On the California Coastal Redwood Forest, there are three redwood trees you can actually drive through. We drove through two of them - the Shrine Drive-Thru-Tree in Myers Flat, CA and the Chandelier Tree in Leggett, CA in October, 2014. These trees are over 300 feet tall, over 2,000 years old and have a diameter of 21 feet. World Famous Drive-Thru Tree Chandelier Tree Redwood Forest Leggett California National Park http://www.1ownercarguy.com We had to visit the Redwood Forest since we were so close. We asked someone how close we were to the famous drive-thru tree and said not far at all so we decided to go see it. I didn't know this but it is on private land that a family has owned since 1922. It's weird because you are driving into it and all you see is normal trees and you wonder if your in the right place then all of a sudden you are in the huge trees. It's pretty amazing and I would recommend visiting if you are ever in the area. The drive-thru tree is called the Chandelier Tree and it is 315 feet tall and 21 feet in diameter and they say it is over 2,400 years old. We had to wait in line to drive through it and there was a BMW going through so I had to get a video of it coming through. A 3 minute visual-poetic film based on the Redwood trees, laced with tidbits of information. There are 3 members of the Redwood tree family: Coast Redwoods (Sequoia semperviren) located on the California coastal fog belt. Giant Sequoias (Sequoiadendron giganteum) of the Sierra Nevada. Dawn Redwoods (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) of Central China. This small film depict the first two. In the 1980s, CDs started entering the market while people were stuck on cassette tapes. I came across a magazine that contained a "CD sampler." I stared at it and thought the idea of "CD" would never catch on, and since CD players were costly, I threw the sampler among my belongings. Close to a year later, I had a CD player. In a time of struggle, I found the old CD sampler and played it. There was a track on it that gave me a calming sensation. It was called "The Redwoods," read by Princess Grace of Monaco. I did not quite understand much of its meaning at the time, but the sound spoke volumes to me intuitively. I still have the CD 20 years later and when I wanted to piece a small video together on the Redwood trees, my spider sense kept tingling to use that track. Hope you enjoy.

The Redwood Forest Highway drive is truly spectacular. You can't really describe the forest and a Redwood Tree, it must be experienced. However, I will try in this video. Giant majestic trees that are a few thousand years old. It's one of the most fun and scenic drives I've ever been on with plenty of pull off's to stop and take pictures. The route includes Hwy 101 & Hwy 199. Along the way we visited Fern Canyon and it was awesome as well. Along the way, we also drove through a Redwood Tree.

California Travel Destination & Attractions | Visit Redwood National and State Parks Show The Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP) are located in the United States, along the coast of northern California. Comprising Redwood National Park (established 1968) and California's Del Norte Coast, Jedediah Smith, and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Parks (dating from the 1920s), the combined RNSP contain 133,000 acres (540 km2). Located entirely within Del Norte and Humboldt Counties, the four parks, together, protect 45% of all remaining coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) old-growth forests, totaling at least 38,982 acres (157.75 km2). These trees are the tallest and one of the most massive tree species on Earth. In addition to the redwood forests, the parks preserve other indigenous flora, fauna, grassland prairie, cultural resources, portions of rivers and other streams, and 37 miles (60 km) of pristine coastline. In 1850, old-growth redwood forest covered more than 2,000,000 acres (8,100 km2) of the California coast. The northern portion of that area, originally inhabited by Native Americans, attracted many lumbermen and others turned gold miners when a minor gold rush brought them to the region. Failing in efforts to strike it rich in gold, these men turned toward harvesting the giant trees for booming development in San Francisco and other places on the West Coast. After many decades of unrestricted clear-cut logging, serious efforts toward conservation began. By the 1920s the work of the Save-the-Redwoods League, founded in 1918 to preserve remaining old-growth redwoods, resulted in the establishment of Prairie Creek, Del Norte Coast, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Parks among others. Redwood National Park was created in 1968, by which time nearly 90% of the original redwood trees had been logged. The National Park Service (NPS) and the California Department of Parks and Recreation (CDPR) administratively combined Redwood National Park with the three abutting Redwood State Parks in 1994 for the purpose of cooperative forest management and stabilization of forests and watersheds as a single unit. The ecosystem of the RNSP preserves a number of threatened animal species such as the tidewater goby, Chinook salmon, northern spotted owl, and Steller's sea lion. In recognition of the rare ecosystem and cultural history found in the parks, the United Nations designated them a World Heritage Site on September 5, 1980 and an International Biosphere Reserve on June , More Info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redwood_National_and_State_Parks redwood national park lodging, redwood national park camping, redwood trees, redwood national park map, best time to visit redwood national park, redwood national park cabins, redwood national park weather, redwood national park hikes,

SUBSCRIBE! http://tinyurl.com/p2fveuj California travel expert Veronica Hill of http://www.CaliforniaTravelExpert.com and the California Essential Guide app (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id428163062?mt=8) tours the Avenue of the Giants highway in the Northern California Redwoods in this episode of "California Travel Tips." Music: Jason Shaw at http://www.AudioNautix.com tretching 32 miles between Garberville and Fortuna, Avenue of the Giants is one of California's best scenic drives. The road, which travels along Higway 101 on Route 254, is named for our state's magnificent coastal California redwoods. They happen to be the tallest trees on earth — some reaching up to 380 feet tall and 26 feet wide. Avenue of the Giants is one of the best places in the state to view these magnificent towering trees, and its easy to feel dwarfed as you travel down the shaded 2-lane highway. When you enter the park, pick up a map that highlights the route and its attractions. If you want to make a weekend of it, you can camp at Burlington or Hidden Springs Campgrounds, or enjoy more modern comforts at the Myers Inn B&B. Our first stop is at the Immortal Tree, which is 250 tall and more than 950 years old. Inside the gift shop, you can pick up a map of Bigfoot hunting locations. Apparently more than 200 encounters have been reported in these parts, especially during the summer and fall. They say Bigfoot can get as tall as 14 feet, is a good swimmer, and sounds like a mountain lion — if you believe in that sorta thing. After checking out Founder's Grove in Weott, we head to Myers Flat to squeeze our SUV through the world-famous Shrine Drive-Thru Tree. There are three drive-through trees along the route, and each will set you back about $6. Kids can explore the two-story tree houses, or get lost in the walk-through stump. Yes, it's touristy — but loads of fun. Thanks for joining us at Avenue of the Giants. I'll see you next time. Purposefully travel south down Hwy. 101 from Oregon, or north, up 101 from anywhere along the California coast to experience camping like you've never experienced it before. This unique RV "park" is truly a park that is set between the Klamath River mouth to the Pacific Ocean and a pavilion of giant trees. It's a welcoming place; you can get several good night's rests here. A walk on the beach is just one and half miles away; or, take a short day-trip to Trees of Mystery where you will visit Paul Bunyan and Babe, the blue ox. There, forest trails wind their way through actual "mystery" trees that are shaped like pretzels and DNA strandoids entirely by the forces of nature. Play "crazy golf" or "ladder ball" in the garden; maybe a game of volleyball with friends. They even have sets of croquet to use, remember that game with the wickets, the mallets and the balls you have to hit through the wickets? Take a drive through the redwoods; visit Jedediah Smith and Prairie Creek State Parks. You'll be amazed at the largest species of trees on the face of the earth. If you're up for a hike, you can take the trail through the albino redwoods after enjoying a seashore stroll. Listen for hawks that glide overhead. Be sure to make your stay include a Saturday night so that you can take in the weekly BBQ that features delicious chicken and salmon, seasoned with the secret recipe "Bigfoot Rub". You might get to visit with some of the Kamp Klamath staff as they sing songs or tell stories after the evening feast. Guys like "Tugboat" Willie (plays the washtub bass), Doug King (doubles as the park manager and the park "main entertainment", and the park owner - Aaron Funk and Shadow (Aaron's dog and the real boss, at least of Gotcher, the goat). All three tell great stories, so be sure to request "Ghost Riders in the Sky," "The Days of "69," or "Highway Patrol." One of my favorite stories is the one Aaron shares about "Oregos," who sits at the mouth of the river and tells the fish when they should leave the ocean and head up the Klamath River. Crescent City is only 30 miles north and has some excellent activities to offer. You can crab on Citizens Dock (we caught 43 red crab in one setting - check the limits), visit the Rumiano Cheese Factory to get some great deals on delicious cheese, walk along the beach, and don't miss their outstanding 4th of July celebration that starts with a morning town parade. It's a fun-filled week or more, all accessible from Kamp Klamath. When you check in to get your site, be sure you tell them "CamperRick" sent you!

A redwood forest documentary about the Northern California coast redwoods. In June of 2016, I abandoned all responsibility and decided to pursue my dream of making a short documentary film about these massive trees. I spent over a week in the Northern California redwood forest filming nature. The tallest redwood tree in California lives only a short ways from where much of this video took place. In this film you will see several days of filming various trees and forests. I spent many hours searching for the perfect filming conditions and various wildlife featured in this video. The worlds tallest redwood tree is over 370 feet tall and is estimated to have lived thousands of years. These amazing trees are found in only a small percentage of the area that they once resided. It is estimated that over 70% of the redwood trees have been logged. They were once found on over 2 million acres of never logged land to freely grow, now they are only found on around one hundred thousand acres. The Travel Muse goes to the The Redwood National Park in Northern California!! The Redwoods are a California LEGEND and I have always wanted to see them with my own eyes, so I haaaad to travel there! This video is a total departure from what I normally do, but I did it this way because I felt it fit the energy of the Redwoods better. So me, my fiance, and two best friends piled into the car, drove all the way up the coast, and spent three days with our jaws on the floor. I might have had one melt-down brought on by overwhelming beauty. It may or may not appear in the BTS video. This is one we will never forget!! This is not the California you might envision when someone says'California.' Beautiful and rugged with clean air, great roads, not much traffic and wildlife. Music: Pai (Chil Mix) by Elixirion http://www.elixirion.com

This was the furthest I’ve ever driven, EVER, never mind just in one day, I mean in my life. It actually turned out to be one of the best days of the entire trip, there was something about being spontaneous which really added some excitement to the day. The Redwoods were absolutely amazing. It ‘s important to plan your route as there are various Redwood parks dotted around the North of California. If you only have time for one I highly recommend ‘The Avenue Of The Giants’ this is a stretch of around 35 miles of twisty, windy roads through some of the biggest tree’s on the Planet. Obviously I wouldn’t recommend driving for a full 12 hours as it could be quite dangerous. However I honestly don’t think there is any need to stop in Eureka. My biggest tip is to plan ahead and plan your exact route. Finally there are an abundance of good quality motels along the West Coast, be sure to do your research and you won’t be disappointed. P.s The Drive Thru Tree is a bit of an Anti – Climax. WOULDN’T STAY OVER IN EUREKA (due to lack of things to do) but you have to pass through in order to get to the Redwoods and Napa. Hike with us through the magnificent ancient redwood forest at Stout Grove in the heart of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park near Crescent City, California. It is known as the most scenic stand of ancient redwoods in the world. A plush layer of ferns and redwood sorrel carpets the ground below century old trees. To grow California redwoods, or sequoias, use woody, composted soil, provide lots of water, good drainage and room to grow so the tree can get sun. Avoid trying to plant California redwoods in desert climates or very cold areas considering information from a sustainable gardener in this free video on gardening. The prelude to an amazing trip...! Driving to vacation with your friends is one of the most fun ways to travel that I can think of. The sense of anticipation on a road trip is that much greater than flying...at least that's how I feel. You have NO clue how it will all work out, but a hell of a lot of time to think about it. We were super excited during our road trip, and I wanted to capture that mood and sense of adventure we all felt...Cheers! - Nathalie (All videos filmed and edited by yours truly) JOIN ME! Mudslides are rarely caught on camera, but in northern California a citizen journalist captured this one on film. Join me as we take a "Four Day Tour of the Pacific North West on BMW GS Motorcycles". This video document highlights four incredible days of motorcycle touring in the Pacific North West. The first 3 days of the journey we see no clouds and experience unseasonably warm coastal weather. A rarity in this part of the world. As far as Spring Motorcycle Rides go, this was a real gem. Day 3: The California Redwoods & Oregon Cascades The third day we leave the Oregon Coast and find ourselves in the Redwoods of Northern California. We do some light off road travel through the giant trees. Later in the day we find ourselves crossing Interstate 5 at Grants Pass heading toward Crater Lake following the Rogue River to it's source. We take in the many sights along the way and finalize our day traveling among volcanoes and snow at higher elevations in the Oregon Cascades. The day ends as it began... Perfect. Read about this and other adventures on my blog. http://rubikonadventures.blogspot.com/ Be sure to check out videos of all 4 days to really enjoy the views, the ride and the splendor of the Pacific North West Coast, the California Redwoods, a taste of the Oregon Cascades and the arid side of the state of Oregon and Washington. Thanks for riding with me. ~GrizzLee
