At 63,000 square feet, the new H&M store in New York City’s Herald Square is the fast-fashion retailer’s largest location in the world. The site pits H&M, which has shaken up the retail world in recent years amid very competitive apparel prices, against Macy’s historic Herald Square store. Both locations, and countless other destinations known as 'flagships', are designed to showcase the top-tier assortments in a given season. And who do they want to showcase the latest threads too? International tourists, that often flock to flagships destinations in major cities for brands they recognize from back at home. As for H&M, the gargantuan new store is one part of its broader push into the U.S., where it will cross the 400 store mark this year. TheStreet’s Brian Sozzi talks with H&M North America President Dan Kulle about the new store, and the retailer’s plans in the year ahead. Pollution levels around the world today seem astronomical, but in New York City, they used to be deadly. How did this happen and when did it change? When Did Environmentalism Become So Political? https://youtu.be/r0tX54XUcHs?list=UUzWQYUVCpZqtN93H8RR44Qw Read More: Thanksgiving 1966 Air Pollution Episode In The Eastern United States' (HEW report, 1968) http://bit.ly/2n0uodi "In recent years adverse health effects resulting from acute air pollution episodes have been dramatically demonstrated. In these cases excess illness due to sharp increases in air pollution concentrations was sudden in onset and, in some cases, fatal in outcome. The best known cases are those in the Meuse Valley, Belgium (1930); Donora, Pennsylvania (1948); London (1952 and 1953); New York City (1953); London (1962); and New York City (1963). Excess deaths over normal expectancy ranged from 17 in Donora, to 4000 in the 1952 London smog. Sensational and tragic as these acute episodes are, health authorities are even more concerned today with the slow, insidious effects on human lungs and other organs by air pollution levels that are much lower, but are continued every day, year after year." 40th Anniversary of the Clean Air Act https://www.epa.gov/clean-air-act-overview/40th-anniversary-clean-air-act "The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency celebrated the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Clean Air Act Amendments, a landmark piece of legislation that has led to significant environmental and public health benefits across the United States. The Clean Air Act was signed by President Richard Nixon on December 31, 1970 to foster the growth of a strong American economy and industry while improving human health and the environment. President Richard Nixon recognized the Clean Air Act as a beginning, stating, 'I think that 1970 will be known as the year of the beginning, in which we really began to move on the problems of clean air and clean water and open spaces for the future generations of America.'" Bryant Park is the busiest park in the world, but few visitors know about the trap door, the secret escape hatch from an underground room, or the ruins from the 1800's. Here's a list of my top 12 secrets of Bryant Park. If you're interested in taking a free tour of Bryant Park and learning even more, I highly recommend it: http://bryantpark.org/programs/park-tours Also, the free movie I referred to in the library at 4:24 talks a lot about the history of the park, the old reservoir, and the library. It's really interesting. Molly Crabapple is a relentlessly prolific artist, writer and activist. Her murals adorn the walls of famous night clubs in New York and London, and her writing has been published in Vanity Fair, the Paris Review, VICE and the New York Times. Through illustration, Molly has documented some of the most pivotal political moments of the last decade, from the 2008 recession to Occupy Wall Street, to life inside Guantanamo Bay, the Syria’s civil war. Most recently, Molly published a memoir, “Drawing Blood,” that tells the story of her eclectic life and career. I wanted to understand what it really means to call yourself an artist in this crazy city and how she has managed to seamlessly blend her art with journalism, so I accepted her offer of drawing lessons at her live-in studio in Manhattan’s financial district. This video is Part 1 and covers Midtown Manhattan including Times Square, the Diamond District, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, Top of the Rock (with views of Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, and Freedom Tower), Radio City Music Hall, Bryant Park, New York Public Library, Grand Central Station, and the underground subway. Join me on this delicious New York City food tour! ►Check out my NYC food guide: https://goo.gl/xubRjU ►Get a t-shirt here: https://goo.gl/3dV4uu New York City is an incredible food city because of the diversity of the food available. On this New York City food tour we started off the day by going to one of the most famous restaurants in NYC, Katz's Delicatessen to eat pastrami. Next, we ate at a restaurants in New York City Chinatown called Spicy Village for an amazing pan of “Spicy Big Tray Chicken,” and for dinner I had chicken over rice from The Halal Guys, one of the most popular New York City street foods. 1:21 Katz's Delicatessen - There are few places in New York City for food as famous as Katz's Delicatessen, an absolute legendary deli in the city. Although it’s well overpriced, because it’s such a heritage NYC institution, it’s one of the must eat restaurants in the city. I arrived early in the morning, hoping to beat the crowds, which I did (go for breakfast if you want to avoid lines). After a little contemplation, I decided to go for the reuben with pastrami and a half of corned beef. The corned beef was alright, but the reuben with pastrami was incredible. Total price - $48.56 13:32 Spicy Village - Next up on this New York City food tour my wife and I walked around New York City Chinatown and eventually found our way over to a restaurant called Spicy Village (thanks to Monty for this recommendation). The one dish I mainly wanted to eat at Spicy Village was the Spicy big tray chicken, a pan of fried chicken parts and noodles in a spicy and mouth numbing broth. It was everything I had hoped for and more, and it was one of the best foods I ate in New York City! Total price - $22 - But along with the spicy big tray chicken we had an extra dish as well. 18:32 Times Square - One of the busiest and most recognized squares in the world is Times Square in New York City. So in the afternoon, happy and full of Spicy Village and Katz’s Deli, we walked over to Times Square to enjoy the people watching and the ridiculous amount of lights and action. 20:19 The Halal Guys - While walking through Times Square I remembered that one of the most popular New York City street food stalls wasn’t too far away. So we walked over to The Halal Guys, and I ordered chicken over rice. The chicken over rice itself is prepared pretty plain, but the flavor in The Halal Guys is all in the white and red sauce, both of which are incredibly flavorful and delicious. It was my first time to eat at The Halal Guys, and I’m pretty happy I did. Chicken over rice - $7 It was a great first full day in New York City with some incredibly delicious food. Probably my favorite dish of the day was the spicy big tray chicken from Spicy Village, but all the food was so food. Recently Gotham Film Works took delivery of the first SHOTOVER K1 HAMMERHEAD Aerial Camera Array. Over the last several years I’ve been specializing in long form, high resolution, large format aerial cinematography. For the first shoot with this new aerial array we rigged the system with 3X RED Weapon Monstro 8K VV cameras, which once processed creates stunning 100 megapixel motion picture images with a sensor size of approximately 645 Medium Format Film. The resulting 12K by 8K footage is 48.5 times the resolution of HD 1080p and full of captured detail. This is an 8K export of the footage. Best viewed in 4K or 8K full screen.

2SPetrvs filmed these wonderful impressions of the annual Corpus Christi Procession through Midtown Manhattan, New York City, in the area passing Times Square, with the parish of Holy Innocents in New York. On this occasion, the Redeemer of the world is gloriously and reverently brought out into the world, particularly on the streets of perhaps the most secularized and fast-paced metropolis. As the only church in NYC that offers Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form daily, the Church of the Holy Innocents is a vital thread that holds the city together, even if many New Yorkers themselves do not realize it. Why do so many of New York's older skyscrapers have a similar design? The answer can be traced back to a monumental 1916 zoning law, which established “setback” requirements for buildings above a certain height. In the heart of the Financial District, the Equitable Building, a historic skyscraper that predates the law, remains a symbol of the excesses of the pre-zoning era. This is a relatively popular Queensrÿche show from the early days. Queensrÿche is headlining the 1st of 3 shows at the L'amour East venue in Queens, New York City. Luckily for us, someone brought a video camera to the show, and recorded it (the 2nd night has an audio recording as well). The video showcases how small and intimate this concert is, and the audio quality is pretty good most of the time (although sometimes the lead vocals can be a bit low in the mix). The show is 99% complete (small cut between 'Blinded' and 'Take Hold Of The Flame'), and the video is almost complete, since it's only missing the last song. This is one of the very last shows on the 'Rage For Order Tour', and so Geoff's voice does, from time to time, show some fatigue. Being a headline show, the band perform an extended set: - 'Neue Regel': Is a solid version, although the sustains on the high notes are missing. - 'Surgical Strike': Sounds alright, but is nothing special. - 'Warning': Sounds good. - 'The Whisper': Is a solid version with a nice balanced mix. - 'Walk In The Shadows': Is fine, but Geoff hits some bad notes at times. - 'No Sanctuary': Is one of the best performances of the night, and is a very good version. It has a nice F#5 at the end as well! - 'London': Is a good version overall. - 'Roads To Madness': Is a fine version as well, it does seem a bit rushed, and thus loses some of its appeal as well. - 'Deliverance': Is fine overall. - 'Chemical Youth': Is a pretty good version for the most part. - 'Queen Of The Reich': Sounds alright, but again, some of the high notes lack either sustain or power. There are better versions on this tour. - 'The Lady Wore Black': Is a shortened medley version, but it sounds great. - 'Nightrider': Is a great version. - 'Blinded': Is only the guitar solo and the ending, but it sounds alright. - 'Take Hold Of The Flame': Has no video (as far as I know), but it's a great version with lots of power! Enjoy the show people!

Narrated by actress Susan Sarandon, this hour-long documentary film showcases the High Line, a most unusual and unlikely public park. Since opening in 2009, it has become a top global tourist destination, with nearly 5 million visitors annually. Since 1998, Great Museums' call to action has been find the museum in your own backyard. The High Line is a perfect example. "The long, narrow High Line is like a gallery in a museum where the city itself is on display," explains co-executive productive Marc Doyle. "You see the Statue of Liberty looking one way and the Empire State building looking the other." The mile-and-a half-long High Line offers visitors a carefully curated world of woodlands, thickets, prairies and meadows - floating 30 feet in the air - through 22 blocks of Manhattan's West Side. It is like a living museum of plants - a tour de force of public landscaping - carefully curated atop an abandoned elevated railroad that was saved from the wrecking ball. "We filmed the High Line over the course of two years to capture the full glory of all four seasons," says Chesney Doyle, co-executive producer of Great Museums. "Elevated Thinking" is the story of a grassroots effort, led by Friends of the High Line co-founders Robert Hammond and Joshua David, to buck city hall and save a massive, derelict, mile-and-half-long, freight railway from demolition. Against all odds, they built a coalition of neighbors, real estate developers, philanthropists, and city officials, including the support of the Bloomberg administration. CSX Transportation, which had purchased the High Line 1998, supported the idea of repurposing the High Line and eventually donated the structure to the city. "Many residents thought it was a big, ugly piece of junk in the sky," says Great Museums' Chesney Doyle. "Now it's a model for communities everywhere."

This film shows some impressions of the New York City subway in Manhattan. The NYC subway system is really old and the infrastructure shows a lot of wear and tear; especially the stations are in pretty rough shape. The system is quite efficient, though. Many lines have four tracks, where the inner two tracks are used by express services, which only stop at major (interchange) stations. The platform layout at these stations allows for convenient transfer between express and local services. This film was shot on a Saturday afternoon. Curiously, there seemed to be significantly less frequent service than during weekdays, with some lines even not operating at all. Some stations were quite deserted while others (especially those along the Lexington Avenue line) were overcrowded. Enjoy! Index to the film: 00:00 – 47–50 Streets / Rockefeller Center 01:20 – West 4th Street / Washington Square 02:23 – Spring Street (note the express service passing the station at 4:05) 04:26 – Canal Street 05:31 – Riding an R160 class train on the E line from Canal Street to World Trade Center 07:04 – World Trade Center station 07:33 – A brief view of the 9/11 memorial and the new 1 World Trade Center building 08:17 – Fulton Street (platform for J and Z lines; quite deserted this day) 08:38 – Brooklyn Bridge / City Hall 10:34 – Grand Central / 42nd Street 11:15 – 68th Street / Hunter College
