San Francisco has a rich an diverse public transport system, comprised of subways, trams, trolleybuses, regular buses, and of course the famous Cable Car. Today’s film takes a look at “Muni Metro”, which is San Francisco’s tram system. It has a length of 56 km on which it operates six lines. In the city centre, all lines are bundled along the Market Street corridor, where they run in a tunnel beneath the street. This (and only this) underground section uses ATO (automatic train operation), and in fact, it is the only light rail in the world to be so operated. The film starts along The Embarcadero, which is the main waterfront street. Near the Bay Bridge one can get some wonderful shots of trams with the bridge in the background. We then move towards Embarcadero station, which is the first station inside the tunnel and where several lines terminate. After taking a brief look at another underground station, Van Ness station, the film finally shows more overground scenes at Church & Duboce and Cole & Carl stations. Enjoy! Filmed on December 17 and 18, 2016.

The Bay Area Rapid Transit system (short BART) is a rapid transit commuter rail and subway system serving San Francisco, Oakland, and the surrounding suburbs of the San Francisco Bay Area. It uses 1676mm Indian gauge. It began operation in 1972 and extends over 167km and 44 stations. Its fleet consists of two types of stock. A and B stock was produced by Rohr Industries between in the late 60s early 70s. The more recent C stock has been produced by Alstom and Morrison-Knudsen in the 80s. This film shows a few scenes of BART. It starts at Millbrae, which is the south-western terminus. We then hop on a C stock train and ride one station to San Francisco International Airport. Finally, we see a few trains arriving and departing at Powell Street Station in downtown San Francisco. A complete journey on the scenic Powell-Hyde cable car line in San Francisco, filmed from the front of the running board. Starting at the Powell Street turnaround at Market St the cable car travels through the heart of the city as it climbs and descends Nob Hill and Russian Hill on its way to Fisherman's Wharf. Highlights include passing Union Square, the crooked Lombard Street and a great view of Alcatraz in the Bay with the sound of a fun and vocal crowd onboard. For purity I have not edited out the stops, but you can skip the longer stops if you like. If you like it please subscribe to my channel.

It's way over Budget & We're not going to see this thing until 2024. A lot of people are going to be losing their houses because of this train. They want private ownership of traveling GONE. I bet you this & the one to Las Vegas will be built definitely before 2024. Sanctuary City - Sanctuary City: Bullet Train Government Control Grid project aka agenda 21 aka agenda 2030. I just thought this was very interesting. I heard about a bullet train going from Los Angeles to Las Vegas as well.

This is a condensed video showing the progress of AMTRAK's "California Zephyr" train from Chicago to Emeryville, near San Franciso, in late December, 2015. I edited down about four hours of video I took to and hour and a half, but pretty much everything of interest is represented in the version presented here. I think people interested in taking this great trip will get a good feeling of what they will see during the journey. I have other videos about what it is like to ride an AMTRAK Superliner train, especially what to expect in a Roomette in a sleeper car on such a train. Accordingly I have NOT included that kind of information in this video.....it is just about the California Zephyr route and scenery. In this video, you will see the departure from Chicago's Union Station, passing across northern Illinois, then continuing the next morning near Denver, Colorado, then the scenic passage over the Rocky Mountains, then continuing the next morning near Reno, Nevada, with the crossing of the Sierra Nevada mountains and finally the flat transit to the Bay Area and the arrival in Emeryville.

From railfan view from the northbound 8:03 express train from San Jose to San Francisco's 4th and King Street Station. This is officially classified as the last morning "Baby Bullet" train in the schedule, but I got lucky and scored a Gallery Car trainset with a reasonably clean railfan window. Station stops at Sunnyvale, Menlo Park, Redwood City San Mateo and Milbrae have been edited out. This is a replacement for my previous "dirty window" video taken way back in 2012. Enjoy!

Me and my parents were on the way to San Francisco, CA for our Presidents' Day outing this day. So we went to Fremont, CA and we rode the BART train from there to San Francisco. We passed by quite a few stations while along the way. We were traveling at highway speed, possibly a bit faster on the straight-aways. The trip took around 40-45 minutes. It was my 2nd time riding the BART in my life, 1st time recently. The first time I rode this was when I was very little. (Monday afternoon, February 20, 2012)

What if you could make a train trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco in half an hour? It may sound farfetched, but a group of MIT students are developing a new form of transportation to bring that dream to life: the supersonic hyperloop, a pneumatic train powered by magnetism that would put the fastest high speed rail lines to shame. Science correspondent Miles O’Brien reports.

As a child, I dreamed of embarking on a Hollywood style train trip across the American continent. One in which I would hop on and off as I pleased without the thought of money and time holding me back. However, as I grew older, the inevitable reality of life set in. As Americans, our most common means of long distance transportation is by air travel. We are ingrained with the concept of doing things by way of the fastest and most convenient route. By doing so, we take for granted an old and advantageous mode of transportation. For most, neglecting the locomotive wonder that this country possesses has proven to me to be an unfortunate modern American mistake. Traveling across the USA by train gives one an entirely new perspective and is one that everyday Americans should not avoid. A large part of the reason why embarking on such a trip is frowned upon is due to the relationship between time and money. In this country, train travel isn’t always exactly cheap when you consider how much time it takes one to reach a destination. However, we must remember that the faster the travel time, the more we miss. Although 5 hours of flying around 3,000 miles across the country is faster than 4 days by train, how much do you really see from an airplane seat thousands of feet high in the sky? Aside from seeing and experiencing more, I think it serves as a good reminder of the importance of slowing life down every now and then. There is no denying that most Americans live a little too fast paced. Also, in terms of cost, I have found a way to bypass the price of train travel. I recently booked a train trip from West coast to East coast (with stops along the way) for absolutely FREE. To make things even better, I was able to bring someone along with me for no additional fee and I was able to book fairly luxurious accommodations compared to the typical basic economy seats. For two of the three legs, this lack of a price included having our own sleeper car with shower access and free meals. Take a tour of your new Muni train! The first of a new generation of Muni Metro trains arrived on January 13, 2017, marking a huge milestone for the fleet that will play a major role in transforming the Muni-riding experience in the years to come. These trains aren’t just sleeker, quieter and safer than our current train fleet. They’re also expected to be far more reliable, running an average of 59,000 miles without breakdowns, compared to less than 5,000 miles with our current trains. This is the first of four initial trains already in production by Siemens. These trains will replace our current fleet of 151 trains and expand it by 64 in phases over the next few years.
