Ever use your smartphone to pay for parking or split the dinner bill with a friend? More people are using their phones as a mobile wallet and most mobile transactions work just fine. But with technology constantly evolving the rules that should protect consumers simply haven’t caught up. In this animated video, follow along as Miles and his friend Pearl spend the day together, banking and buying music and coffee, all with their phones. Are the risks of using mobile payments holding people back and what can be done about them? For more facts on mobile payments visit: http://www.pewtrusts.com/mobilepayments. SCRIPT: Smart phones can be used for all kinds of things these days. Ok, we get it and increasingly more people are using their phones as a mobile wallet. You can pay for parking, donate to a worthy cause or split a bill with a friend. Most mobile transactions work just fine, but with technology constantly evolving, the rules that should protect you simply haven’t caught up. And government oversight isn’t clear. Meet Miles. Miles is busy and likes to pay for things with his phone. Yesterday, using his bank’s mobile app, he deposited a birthday check from his grandma. Happy Birthday, Miles! Normally when Miles deposits a check at his bank, the funds are available the next business day. But since his mobile deposit isn’t regulated the same way, Miles’s money may not be available for several days. Today, Miles is hanging out with his friend, Pearl. Pearl stops to fill up her car with gas. Miles offers to pitch in using a mobile app. He thinks his birthday money has already cleared. Miles doesn’t know it yet, but his bank won’t post Grandma’s check for a few more days, so he actually only has $10. That gas just cost an extra $35 in overdraft fees. Yikes! Miles, did you give the bank permission to overdraw your account for a fee? Like a lot of people, Miles doesn’t remember. And banks may not have to ask permission to overdraw your account for mobile transfers – like they’re required to with debit card and ATM transactions. Next, Miles and Pearl stop at their favorite coffee shop. Miles, are you concerned about data privacy? Miles likes the convenience of mobile payments and hasn’t thought much about it. But if he did run into problems, it’s not clear who’s in charge of protecting his data. Last stop -- the record store. Pearl tries to pay with her mobile wallet. But, the money is gone! Unfortunately, money stored directly on mobile wallets may not have the same protections as checking accounts. Financial institutions provide fraud protection and deposit insurance while others aren’t required to by law. Pearl, did you read your mobile wallet agreement? One tap of a finger may bind a consumer to a contract even if it is hard to read or unclear. With the right rules, Miles and Pearl’s money would be protected. Policymakers should update rules and laws to make mobile payments simple, safe, and secure for everyone. For more information, click here.

A digital wallet or Mobile Wallets refers to an electronic device that allows an individual to make online/offline transactions. It serves as a place to hold some of your money online. You make payments using the money stored in your wallet instead of using a credit card, debit card or net banking, which means your card/bank account doesn’t need to be accessed. There are different kinds of wallets some liked to a e-commerce site like Flipkart or Ola which can be used to make purchases from that site only. Some like MobiWik and Paytm or MobiKwik can be used to make purchases at other websites also. Some like Airtel money can be used to Pay Bills and Recharge, shop or transfer money to bank accounts of your friends and family. This all and more is discussed in detail in the video. A look at how ACI Worldwide's products support transactions and P2P payments. Learn more at http://www.aciworldwide.com/mobilepayments The new mobile economy impacts all types of transactions, including purchases and person-to-person payments. Banks that extend the security, verification, and routing features of their existing infrastructure will stay competitive in this rapidly evolving mobile economy. On his way to a coffee shop, David remembers that his bank has pre-approved a credit card in his name. To take advantage of the offer, David opens his bank's mobile wallet on his Smartphone and accepts it. His bank then securely downloads a credit card payment app, via ACI Token Manager for mobile at ACI Issuer. At the coffee shop, David purchases his coffee by touching his near-field communication-enabled Smartphone to a point of sale terminal. Behind that simple action is a trusted transactions process that includes BASE24-eps, which is used by the bank and retail commerce server, which is used by the retailer. All David knows is that when he wants coffee, he can get it fast, easily, and securely. A few moments later, he receives an SMS alert asking him to confirm his purchase. Proactive Risk Manager has identified the transaction as the first on his newly-authorized card, and his bank wants to ensure that the transaction is a valid one for the new cardholder. After confirming with a simple text that it was an authorized purchase, David gets a text from his daughter; her pre-paid phone is running out of minutes and she also needs cash to buy her mom a birthday present. Just a few taps later, using the same Smartphone, David has topped-off his daughter's phone card and allocated cash that she can pick up at any of his bank's ATMs. ACI's BASE24-eps enables both transactions easily and securely, and all before his coffee cools. Mobile payment, also referred to as mobile money, mobile money transfer, and mobile wallet generally refer to payment services operated under financial regulation and performed from or via a mobile device. Instead of paying with cash, cheque, or credit cards, a consumer can use a mobile phone to pay for a wide range of services and digital or hard goods. Although the concept of using non-coin-based currency systems has a long history, it is only recently that the technology to support such systems has become widely available. Mobile payment is being adopted all over the world in different ways. In 2008, the combined market for all types of mobile payments was projected to reach more than $600B globally by 2013, which would be double the figure as of February, 2011. The mobile payment market for goods and services, excluding contactless Near Field Communication or NFC transactions and money transfers, is expected to exceed $300B globally by 2013. b'As promised earlier, Target today launched its own mobile payments system with the introduction of \xe2\x80\x9cWallet\xe2\x80\x9d in the Target app. Wallet, as the name implies, allows Target shoppers in-store to both check out using their smartphone as well as take advantage of their Cartwheel digital coupons and discounts with only one scan of their barcode.'b'Already, Cartwheel savings in Target\xe2\x80\x99s app had worked like this \xe2\x80\x93 that is, after adding the discounts on selected products to your Target account using the Cartwheel feature, shoppers could present a barcode to be scanned at the point-of-sale to take advantage of the savings. The only difference between that and today, is that shoppers can now also choose to pay using their Target REDcard at the same time.'b'Target\xe2\x80\x99s\xc2\xa0REDcard is available as both a debit card that links to customers\xe2\x80\x99 bank accounts and a store credit card, and offers 5 percent back on purchases to encourage its use.'b'According to the retailer, the advantage for consumers is faster checkout \xe2\x80\x93 up to four times faster than \xe2\x80\x9cother payment types\xe2\x80\x9d it says, a jab at traditional payment methods like chip-and-PIN cards, for example, which are notoriously slow. (Of course, the retailer benefits, too, by pushing users to REDcard where it saves on credit card processing fees.)'b'In the near future, Target Wallet will also support the ability to add and pay with Target GiftCards as well, the retailer says.'b'Target isn\xe2\x80\x99t the only major brick-and-mortar retailer with its own payments system. Walmart previously launched\xc2\xa0Walmart Pay; CVS has CVS Pay; and Kohl\xe2\x80\x99s has Kohl\xe2\x80\x99s Pay, for example. (Perhaps we should give Target credit for not naming its solution Target Pay.)'b'In addition to saving the company money by shifting consumers to store cards, in-house mobile payment solutions give retailers access to the consumer data they would have otherwise given up, had the shopper checked out with a mobile payment solution like Apple Pay, where that data is not shared.'b'\xe2\x80\x9cWallet in the Target app makes checkout easier and faster than ever,\xe2\x80\x9d said Mike McNamara, Target\xe2\x80\x99s chief information and digital officer, in a statement about Wallet\xe2\x80\x99s launch. \xe2\x80\x9cGuests are going to love the convenience of having payment, Cartwheel offers, Weekly Ad coupons and GiftCards all in one place with Wallet.\xe2\x80\x9d'b'The new Wallet feature is available on both Android and iOS versions of the Target app.'

http://www.techbulu.com/ In India there are many ways payments can be transferred from one account to another, every payment system has some advantage and some disadvantage. Mainly four types of payment system is used in India and is available for normal users. I am going to discuss all four and will try to show you some examples as well in this regard so that you can better understand it in normal language. I have seen people does not know when to use each one. National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) System Started in 2005, a one to one money transfer service by RBI for individuals and corporates. Available during certain hours. Provides a batch settlement of transactions at hourly intervals thus enabling near real-time transfer of funds. Transaction Timings for NEFT, Monday to Saturday (Except 2nd and 4th Saturday) is 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM. As from 2013, all transactions initiated before 5 PM will be settled on same day. No transactions are settled on weekly holidays and public holidays. Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) System This payment system was introduced in 2004 by RBI. This is a money transfer systems where transfer of money takes place from one bank to another on a "real time" and on "gross" basis. "Real Time" means there is no waiting period. "Gross" basis means the transactions are settle down on individual basis not on batch basis like NEFT. Once processed, payments are final and irrevocable. It settles all inter-bank payments and customer transactions above ₹ 2 lakh. Customers can access the RTGS facility between 9 am to 4:30 pm (Interbank up to 6:30 pm) on weekdays and 9 am to 2:00 pm (Interbank up to 3:00 pm) on Saturdays. Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) This service was publicly launched on Nov 22,2010. This is an instant real-time inter-bank electronic funds transfer system of India. IMPS offers an inter-bank electronic fund transfer service through mobile phones. Unlike NEFT and RTGS, the service is available 24x7x365 throughout the year including bank holidays. It is managed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Th transaction is done using MMID(Mobile Money Identifier - 7 digit numeric code) which can be generated easily by your mobile which is linked to your account from which you want the transaction to happen and the steps required to generate the MMID is mentioned in below link per bank basis. http://imps.npci.org.in/P2Pparticipatingbanks.asp However now a days some banks even provide IMPS using IFSC and Account number information. To initiate the transaction, the sender in his mobile banking application need to enter the registered mobile number of the receiver, MMID of the receiver and amount to be transferred. Upon successful transaction, the money gets credited in the account of the receiver instantly. Transaction timings and charges of ICICI https://www.icicibank.com/Personal-Banking/onlineservice/online-services/FundsTransfer/neft-rtgs.page United Payments Interface(UPI) UPI is a future of payments of india. The transactions can be done easily anytime using a virtual ID which you need to create and link it with your savings\credit account for the one you want. You can create virtual ID from the bank app on which you have your accounts, also the mobile number registration with your account is very much required. A complete video I have created to show you what is UPI and how to use it on daily basis for payments. The money is transferred from one account to another instantly. Some freerunning | parkour at its best, with a smattering of contactless payment thrown in for good measure. Gemalto mobile NFC and some slick Parkour moves make everyday life interactions like access to buildings, transport, payments and transactions easy. Gemalto's Mobile NFC services turn mobile wallet concept into reality. In a similar way to chip and pin or when ATM machines were first introduced, mobile NFC marks a major milestone in how money changes hands and how we make purchases, with simplicity and convenience being at its heart. You can quickly and securely pay for goods by simply holding your mobile NFC mobile phone over a payment reader in retail outlets. At work, your mobile NFC phone can verify your identity and grant you access to your building. This can be extended to hotel room keys and even access to your home! It also brings convenience, simplicity and speed for passengers using public transport. In just three easy clicks, you can purchase travel tickets directly to your phone and use it to board a train, bus or any other mode of transport that accepts contactless tickets. Mobile NFC phones can also act as a complementary key to access and start the engine of your vehicle. In case of car rental, no need to queue anymore. You can reserve a vehicle and receive the key wirelessly (over the air OTA) with details about its localisation on the parking lot. Mobile NFC is the future of payment transactions and many other types of NFC innovative services. Get on board!

ACI Worldwide software powers electronic transactions for financial institutions, processors and retailers around the world - all the time, without fail. http://www.aciworldwide.com/products-and-services/wholesale-payments/online-and-mobile-banking/mobile-channel-manager.aspx As mobile continues on the fast track, mobile bill presentment and payment across web, apps and text has transitioned from optional features to essential components of a successful billing and payment strategy, and organizations are quickly realizing the importance of providing optimal mobile services. Implementing a mobile billing and payment system is an essential step toward meeting increasing customer demands. Ultimately though, the mobile capabilities and how effectively they are deployed are what will determine whether or not the mobile billing system is perceived as exceptional or inadequate. ---------WEBINAR TRANSCRIPTION-------------- I don't know if you and our guests have seen the news recently, reporting how Smartphone adoption has reached about 60% of the population so far, and how tablets like iPads and so forth are owned by about 1/3 of all households in the US. That's quite a level of adoption over a relatively short period of time. It's pretty amazing in terms of what it's done. It seems to me that what gets missed a lot, in terms of a lot of that news, is how these devices have changed our behaviors and changed how we've communicated. The New York Times picked up on this recently with an article called 'Attached to Technology and Paying the Price' and how all this computer time that we spend online and attached to these devices have really changed our behaviors, our attitudes, and how we think. This is probably a little small, this screen. I don't know if you can see it. I'm not sure you can see the guy's iPad, so let me enlarge that for you to give you a better understanding. There you go. I got to tell you, I bought my wife an iPad a couple years ago and I haven't had to talk to her in 2 years. It's great technology. I love it. Just kidding, of course. I do want to really emphasis today and talk about how these mobile devices are changing behaviors, specifically in terms of how consumers pay their bills. Really from your perspective as billers, understand why you need to participate in shaping a new mobile customer experience. To help me play out this theme a little bit, what I'm going to do over the next 15 or 20 minutes or so is address 3 questions and talk a little bit about what consumers are doing with mobile devices and the mobile channel. I'll share with you some research that we've done recently, in terms of how large billers are responding to this change in behaviors, and then talk a little bit about why this is so important and why shaping a new mobile experience is important. Then I'll turn things back over to Phil, who'll talk a little bit more about how to actually make that happen. IK Group, the firm I work for, is a research and advisory firm based in Boston. We focus on the financial services industry and do a lot of consumer research about how consumers interact with technology as they manage their finances and pay their bills. When we contacted consumers recently, we found that, probably not surprisingly, that many consumers are using their mobile devices to check account balances. Not just bank account, but their credit cards and access other types of accounts as well, with the various providers they do business with because of the convenience of it. We did find, however, that there are significant differences of this utilization by age. Among Gen Y'ers who own a Smartphone, nearly 2/3 of them are checking their account balances using that device. The percentage of other consumers that own a Smartphone and use that device it goes down a bit to about 1/3, to about 3 out of 10 Gen X'ers, or Baby Boomers. Consumers over the age of 65, even if they own a Smartphone, tend to not use that phone to check their account balances. From a tablet perspective, as tablets become more popular, I would expect these numbers to go up. Among the Gen Y'ers who own a tablet, about 4 out of 10 use that device to check account balances. About 1/3 of Gen X'ers who own a tablet are using it to check account balances; about 1 out of 5 Boomers.
