With the tearing of an envelope, 162 University of Michigan medical students found out their fate on March 16, along with tens of thousands of their peers nationwide. The dramatic moment came during U-M’s annual Match Day celebration, http://michmed.org/match, which revealed where graduating students have been accepted for residency training. 99.4 percent of the U-M students matched to a residency program on their shortlist, despite intense and growing national competition for a limited number of training spots. Thirty percent will stay in Michigan, including 21 percent who will continue their training at Michigan Medicine. And 28 of the students will graduate with both a medical degree from U-M and an advanced degree in another field.

The University of Michigan (U-M, UM, UMich, or U of M), frequently referred to simply as Michigan, is a public research university in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. Founded in 1817 in Detroit as the Catholepistemiad, or University of Michigania, 20 years before the Michigan Territory became a state, the University of Michigan is the state's oldest university. The university moved to Ann Arbor in 1837 onto 40 acres (16 ha) of what is now known as Central Campus. Since its establishment in Ann Arbor, the university campus has expanded to include more than 584 major buildings with a combined area of more than 34 million gross square feet (781 acres or 3.16 km²) spread out over a Central Campus and North Campus, has two satellite campuses in Flint and Dearborn, and a Center in Detroit. The University was a founding member of the Association of American Universities. Considered one of the foremost research universities in the United States, the university has very high research activity and its comprehensive graduate program offers doctoral degrees in the humanities, social sciences, and STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) as well as professional degrees in architecture, business, medicine, law, pharmacy, nursing, social work, public health, and dentistry. Nearly 20 percent of the undergraduate student body is affiliated with Greek life at Michigan, which contains approximately 60 fraternity and sorority chapters. If Greek life does not sound appealing, there are more than 900 other student organizations from which to choose. The Michigan Wolverines have many traditions: Their colors are maize and blue, their widely known chant is "Go Blue!," their stadium is called the "Big House," and their football program, known for its fierce rivalry with Ohio State, is one of the most storied teams in college football. Michigan’s graduate programs include the highly ranked Stephen M. Ross School of Business, School of Education, College of Engineering, Law School, Medical School, Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, School of Public Health and School of Nursing in addition to the well-regarded School of Dentistry and Taubman College for Architecture and Urban Planning. The University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers is ranked among the top hospitals in the country. Former U.S. President Gerald Ford, actress Lucy Liu of the "Charlie’s Angels" and "Kill Bill" film series, and NFL quarterback Tom Brady all graduated from Michigan. Hey Everyone! So, it was 2 am last night when I decided to record my dorm room tour. Weird idea, right? But, I felt inspired and energized (somewhat) and figured I might as well record now when my room is looking clean! :) I want to apologize for it being difficult to hear in some parts; There are thin walls in my dorm and I didn't want to risk disturbing my lovely neighbors! But, if there's anything you'd like me to clarify or explain further, just comment below and I will get back to you! Also, let me know if you have any suggestions below for other videos you'd like to see or topics you'd like me to talk about. You're all so lovely and I want to thank you for being really encouraging and genuine with me! If you enjoyed the video, please remember to give a thumbs up, subscribe, and comment (if you wanna)! One of the things that binds us all together is the love of aeronautics and space exploration. It is as true today as it was 100 years ago. The University of Michigan started the first collegiate aeronautics program in the United States in 1914. Since then, the department has graduated more than 6,000 aeronautical and aerospace engineers. Our graduate program ranks No. 1 among public institutions and our undergraduate program ranks No. 2 in the nation by U.S. News for 2014. There’s nothing quite like a White Coat Ceremony to set the stage for the start of medical school at the University of Michigan. It is a celebration filled with warmth, happiness and hope for the future. At this year’s event, each of the 170 entering medical students were formally welcomed and cloaked with a white coat sponsored by a member University of Michigan Medical Center Alumni Society. This tradition symbolizes the connection to the Michigan family that starts at that moment and will continue for the rest of their lives.

Changing the face of medicine to more accurately reflect our country’s population is the idea that inspired Doctors of Tomorrow, a University of Michigan Medical School student organization that pairs freshmen from Cass Technical High School in Detroit with M1 student mentors from the University of Michigan for a year of site visits on both campuses. Doctors of Tomorrow recruits and trains high-achieving students through mentorship, hands-on activities, and a year-end capstone project, all of which helps to develop the foundation students need to succeed academically and professionally in the health care field.

On October 14, 1960, then-Senator John F. Kennedy spoke in the early morning to a gathering of the students at the University of Michigan who were waiting for hours to hear the presidential candidate speak in Ann Arbor. On the steps of the University of Michigan Student Union, President Kennedy challenged the students to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries, an idea that inspired the creation of the Peace Corps. The old zoo on the U-M campus wasn’t the best place to see exotic animals. But for the kinds of creatures that lumber through a Michigan forest or sneak a meal from your garbage, the "Animal House" behind the Ruthven Museum was a campus hotspot. The Liver Transplant Program at the University of Michigan Transplant Center is part of the first and largest transplant programs in the state, and one of the original transplant centers in the country. Since our first liver transplant in 1985, we have completed more than 2,000 liver transplants, performing approximately 80-100 transplants a year. Our patient survival rate at one year is 88%, and our graft transplant survival rate is 86%, both on par with national survival statistics. The University of Michigan is one of only 20 programs in the country that offers liver transplant for hilar cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) approved by United National Organ Sharing, which involves complicated multi-modality therapy before the transplant. Our comprehensive multidisciplinary clinics and extensive clinical and basic science research programs assure our patients have access to the newest medications and technologies.

All Michigan had to do was get this punt off and it would hand Michigan State its first lost of the season. Instead, an unfathomable play handed the Wolverines the 27-23 loss. No. 7 Michigan State stunned No. 12 Michigan in Ann Arbor as time expired, forcing a fumble by the Wolverines’ punter and returning it for a touchdown. With the Wolverines up 23–21 and 10 seconds left, Blake O’Neill, punting away on a play that looked like it would seal the game, fumbled the snap and then attempted to get rid of the ball. As he tried to kick it away, Michigan State’s special teams arrived and applied heavy pressure, forcing him to lose the ball. Sophomore Jalen Watts-Jackson, a reserve defensive back, came up with the fumble and took it back all the way to win the game.
