USS New York - the ship built with steel from the World Trade Center

01:31
Shortly after the Sep. 11 terrorist attacks, New York Gov. George E. Pataki wrote a letter to the Navy requesting to bestow the name “New York” on a warship in honor of the victims. During the naming ceremony aboard the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in Manhattan, Pataki said, “USS New York will ensure that all New Yorkers and the world will never forget the evil attacks of September 11, and the courage and compassion New Yorkers showed in response to terror,” according to the Navy. How To Play The USS New York In World Of Warships (Redux)

29:14
Ahh yes, the former T5 Brawling Champion! Can she still strut her stuff? Well.... yes and no. This ship is punished heavily by the T5 Match Maker which puts her, almost too consistently, against T7 ships and she gets STOMPED by T7 ships but when she is put in a match against T4's, T5's, and T6's she can hold her own still. She is no longer fun to play though and the MM is 100% the reason why I don't enjoy her. She IS maneuverable, she does have decent AA, her guns do hit hard, but her problem is that at T7 everything outclasses her by such large margins that it is nearly suicidal to play her. WG really needs to fix T5 match making!! Anyway, it's a real shame because the New Yorks were both great ships with good history to them. Heck, you can STILL see one today! What's not to love about that?

Tour of the USS New York afforded Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon and guests on January 1, 2010. LCdr Donald Wilson, ISO, provided the tour and gave everyone a fantastic tour of this great new ship. It has 7.5 tons of steel from the World Trade Center embedded in its Bow Stem. Two members of the Patriot Guard Riders of Virginia were on the tour and presented the ship with a certificate and flag. Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon brought cookies from the Hackensack Pastry Shop and a DJ Hero game from Microsoft Xbox for the crew's enjoyment. Guests from Unilever's Suffolk, VA, tea plant brought tea for the sailors. A great tour! The USS Cole was berthed directly in front of the USS New York.

Battleship USS New York BB-34

03:45
This is a dedication video to the Battleship USS New York, the lead ship of her class, and the fifth battleship series built by the United States Navy. The USS New York was built by the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York City in 1911-1912. The New York herself was commissioned in 1914 and served through the Mexican Uprising in 1914 through World War II in both theaters of operations. The USS New York was to be a bomb target in Operation Crossroads in 1946, and survived both the atmospheric atom bomb and the underwater atom bomb explosions. Later, she was used as a target for surface ships, planes, and submarines where she was beaten and battered. An article in Naval Aviation News (October 1948) described the weapons exercise that USS New York was subjected to: "The ex-BB's New York and Nevada, having survived the tests at Bikini, were towed from Pearl Harbor to a spot south of Oahu, and there were subjected to an unmerciful pounding by fleet air and surface units. Planes led by the commanding officer of Fleet All Weather Training Unit Pacific (FAWTUPAC), Captain Paul H. Ramsey, USN, were in on both kills. On 7 July 1948 the New York was the first to feel the sting of the fighters and attack aircraft. Twenty-six planes, consisting of two F7F-4Ns, six F8F-1Ns, twelve F6F-5Ns, and six TBM-3Ns dropped a total of 48 500-pound bombs, 40 100-pound bombs, 98 5-inch HVARs and expended 4,100 rounds of .50 caliber ammunition. Twenty-one direct hits were scored with the 500-pound bombs, 20 direct hits were scored with the 100-pound bombs, and 56 direct hits were scored with the 5-inch HVARs. While surface units stood by and submarines waited to close in for the kill, the tired old battlewagon rolled over and sank as the last participating FAWTUPAC planes recovered from their bombing attacks." Though the USS New York BB-34 was sunk, her sister ship, the USS Texas BB-35, survives to this day as a museum ship in San Jacinto State Park in Texas, and is declared a National Historic Landmark. The USS Texas BB-34, a New York Class Battleship, is the oldest and last surviving battleship from the World War I era. A fitting tribute to an old battle wagon that served with distinction, and the men who served aboard. Enjoy! RifleMan80

NOAA's "air gap" technology received the ultimate test on the morning of June 27, 2009. The technology passed with flying colors as the new U.S. Navy LPD ship, the USS New York, sailed down the Mississippi River, clearing the underside of the Huey P. Long Bridge just north of downtown New Orleans by 64 centimeters (2.1 feet). The San Antonio-class $1 billion naval vessel, built in part from steel salvaged from the World Trade Center towers, sailed downriver, heading out for a month of sea trials. Guide to USS New York

04:53
This time a guide about the obsolete tier 5 USN BB New York. I hope you enjoyed and see you next time. Background: The New York class, USS New York and USS Texas, was a class of two ships. They fought both in WW1 and WW2 and they even both survived the war. Texas is now a museum, but New York got sunk with some nuclear tests. At the time of WW2 they were already obsolete, due to their bad speed, bad AA and small guns. They were an upgrade from Wyoming class, from 12 inch to 14 inch guns. The Nevada class was the upgrade from New York class. Music used: 0:00-1:48 - (Battle hymn of the Republic) 3:06-4:52 - (Brother Jack) No torpedo beats used this time :(

USS New York built with steel from Twin Towers arrives in New York City

02:00
The new Navy assault ship USS New York, built with World Trade Center steel, arrived in its namesake city Monday with a 21-gun salute near the site of the 2001 terrorist attack. First responders, families of Sept. 11 victims and the public gathered Monday at a waterfront viewing area, where they could see the crew standing at attention along the deck of the battleship gray vessel. The big ship paused. Then the shots were fired, with a cracking sound, in three bursts. The bow of the $1 billion ship, built in Louisiana, contains about 7.5 tons of steel from the fallen towers. "It's a transformation ... from something really twisted and ugly," said Rosaleen Tallon, who lost her firefighter brother, Sean, on 9/11. "I'm proud that our military is using that steel." Tallon said her brother, who was also was a Marine, also would have been proud. JoAnn Atlas, of Howells, N.Y., who lost her husband, fire Lt. Gregg Atlas, draped a flag-themed banner along the fence. The names of emergency workers who died were written on the red stripes. "We have to remember. It's a way to honor them," she said. Members of the public included Nancy DiGiacomo, who came from Huntington, N.Y., with her husband, 9-year-old son, mother and sister. "I just thought it was important to see" the transformation of the tragedy's wreckage, said DiGiacomo. "From that, something else can come of it." Lt. Cmdr. Colette Murphy, a Navy spokeswoman, said she was excited for those serving on board to see the city's "awe-inspiring" welcome. Of the 361 sailors serving aboard the ship, around 13 percent are from New York state, which is higher than would normally be the case, Murphy said. There were many requests from Navy personnel to serve on the ship, which will carry some 250 Marines. After the ground zero stop, the ship — ecorted by about two dozen tugboats and other vessels — headed up the Hudson River toward the George Washington Bridge. After a U-turn there, it was to head south to Pier 88. An official commissioning ceremony is scheduled for Saturday. The New York will remain in the city through Veteran's Day and then head to Norfolk, Va., for about a year of crew training and exercises, Murphy said. The ship is 684 feet long and can carry as many as 800 Marines. Its flight deck that can handle helicopters and the MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft. It was scheduled to be built before the terrorist attacks. About a year later, the announcement came that the ship would bear the name New York to honor the city, state, and those who died. It's the latest in a line of Navy ships to bear that name. The others included a Spanish-American War-era cruiser, a battleship that served in World Wars I and II and a nuclear submarine retired from the fleet in 1997. The ship is technically known as a San Antonio-class amphibious dock vessel. Four vessels in that class are in service, the USS San Antonio, USS New Orleans, USS Mesa Verde and USS Green Bay. Four others are being built. Of those, two also have been named in connection with the Sept. 11 attacks. The USS Arlington was named to honor the attack on the Pentagon. The USS Somerset was named after the county in Pennsylvania where United Airlines flight 93 crashed.
