My Trip To Vancouver General Hospital
No, I wasn't here as a patient or anything... I just came in for a lil walkthrough. As a kid, I was at the old VGH (now the Centennial Pavilion). But I have never been to the new VGH (the Jim Pattison Pavilion). So take a gander at some of my footage I captured of the various 2 hospitals from different viewpoints. Driving Downtown - Vancouver 4K - Canada
Driving Downtown - Vancouver BC Canada - Season 1 Episode 22. Starting Point: Granville St https://goo.gl/maps/zcJQRonhEBN2 . Vancouver, officially the City of Vancouver, is a coastal seaport city on the mainland of British Columbia, Canada. The 2011 census recorded 603,502 people in the city, making it the eighth largest Canadian municipality.[1] The Greater Vancouver area of around 2.4 million inhabitants is the third most populous metropolitan area in the country,[1] the second largest city on the United States–Canada border, and the most populous in Western Canada. Vancouver is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada; 52% of its residents have a first language other than English.[4][5] Vancouver is classed as a Beta global city. The City of Vancouver encompasses a land area of about 114 square kilometres, giving it a population density of about 5,249 people per square kilometre (13,590 per square mile). Vancouver is the most densely populated Canadian municipality, and the fourth most densely populated city with over 250,000 residents in North America, behind New York City, San Francisco,[6] and Mexico City. The original settlement, named Gastown, grew up on clearcuts on the west edge of the Hastings Mill logging sawmill's property, where a makeshift tavern had been set up on a plank between two stumps and the proprietor, Gassy Jack, persuaded the curious millworkers to build him a tavern, on 1 July 1867. From that first enterprise, other stores and some hotels quickly appeared along the waterfront to the west. Gastown became formally laid out as a registered townsite dubbed Granville, B.I. ("B.I" standing for "Burrard Inlet"). As part of the land and political deal whereby the area of the townsite was made the railhead of the CPR, it was renamed "Vancouver" and incorporated shortly thereafter as a city, in 1886. By 1887, the transcontinental railway was extended to the city to take advantage of its large natural seaport, which soon became a vital link in a trade route between the Orient, Eastern Canada, and Europe.[7][8] As of 2009, Port Metro Vancouver is the busiest and largest port in Canada, and the most diversified port in North America.[9] While forestry remains its largest industry, Vancouver is well known as an urban centre surrounded by nature, making tourism its second-largest industry.[10] Major film production studios in Vancouver and Burnaby have turned Greater Vancouver and nearby areas into one of the largest film production centres in North America,[11][12] earning it the film industry nickname, Hollywood North.[13][14][15] Vancouver is consistently named as one of the top five worldwide cities for livability and quality of life,[16][17] and the Economist Intelligence Unit acknowledged it as the first city to rank among the top-ten of the world's most liveable cities[18] for five consecutive years.[19] Vancouver has hosted many international conferences and events, including the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, UN Habitat I, Expo 86, the World Police and Fire Games in 1989 and 2009; and the 2010 Winter Olympics and 2010 Winter Paralympics which were held in Vancouver and Whistler, a resort community 125 km (78 mi) north of the city.[20] In 2014, following thirty years in California, the annual TED conference made Vancouver its indefinite home. Several matches of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup were played in Vancouver, including the final at BC Place Stadium.[21] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vancouver http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g154943-Activities-Vancouver_British_Columbia.html http://www.hellobc.com/vancouver.aspx https://www.facebook.com/pages/Vancouver-British-Columbia/114497808567786

Abandoned Mental Hospital Vancouver
A quick look around Vancouver, BC. ATTEMPTING to explore a Canadian insane asylum, and finding additional buildings to look at. The suspicious van might have been maintenance to fix the window, and they knew i was there taking pictures. I couldn't stay there for long. Random facts: Looks like the hospital population peaked in 1956 with 4,306 patients. The Marine building was the tallest building in B.C. when it opened in 1930. Stanley park is 1001 acres, 10% bigger than NY central park. The Gastown clock was built over a steam vent on the sidewalk because homeless would sleep over the vent for heat. A local merchant paid to have the clock installed over the vent, which was initially steam powered. There's now a motor inside to run the clock, but tourists seem to think it's still steam powered. In addition, pure maple syrup is always the right choice for your flap jacking needs. Log Cabin is swill.

Innovations in Reducing Wait Times - Vancouver, B.C.
Faced with ever-increasing demand, emergency departments (EDs) like the one at Vancouver General Hospital struggle to provide patients with timely care and access to diagnostics, while also creating capacity for admitted patients. The Pay-for-Performance model rewards the hospital with additional funding if it meets predetermined targets for moving patients through the ED, either to a hospital bed or back to the community. Taylin McGill's Story
Meet Taylin McGill, BC Children's Hospital Champion Child for 2017 presented by Walmart. In this video, Taylin and her family describe her courageous story and what BC Children's Hospital means to them. Just 10 days after birth, Taylin was diagnosed with salmonella bacterial meningitis—a very rare and serious infection in the brain. This was followed by a diagnosis of ventriculitis, a swelling and inflammation throughout her brain, which resulted in hydrocephalus, an excessive accumulation of cerebral spinal fluid in the brain. These early infections caused scars within her brain’s ventricles—a scarring that restricted the normal flow of cerebral spinal fluid in Taylin’s brain–and caused a life-threatening situation requiring shunt surgery to relieve the pressure. Taylin’s early childhood was then marked by very long, severe seizures, and multiple surgeries. In perhaps the most trying period for the McGill family, an emergency medical situation left their fragile three-year-old Taylin in a coma-like state. She was temporarily mute, had an impairment in her left eye, and was unable to use the left side of her body for several months. Taylin suffered permanent short-term memory loss and worked hard with specialists to re-learn how to walk, talk and eat again. Taylin faced years of obstacles and by age seven, she had endured her fourteenth brain surgery. For more information on Taylin, visit bcchf.ca/taylin.

Emilie Gamelin and the Sisters Of Providence - St. Paul's Hospital Vancouver
St. Paul's Hospital's history began when Mother Emilie Gamelin founded the Sisters of Providence in Montreal in 1843. The Sisters of Providence established schools, hospitals, orphanages, homes for the aged and asylums across Canada, the United States, and later in many other countries. St. Paul's began as a 25-bed compassionate care hospital in 1894, named after then-Bishop Paul Durieu, OMI, of New Westminster. Mother Mary Fredrick from Astoria, Oregon was the first mother superior and administrator to lead its charge. In keeping with the philosophy of the Sisters of Providence, the new hospital was founded on the pledge of providing compassionate care for everyone in need -- tested by a surge in Vancouver's growth brought on by the Klondike gold rush in the 1890s. http://www.providencehealthcare.org/hospitals-residences/st-pauls-hospital/overview/history
