In which John Green teaches you about the (English) colonies in what is now the United States. He covers the first permanent English colony at Jamestown, Virginia, the various theocracies in Massachusetts, the feudal kingdom in Maryland, and even a bit about the spooky lost colony at Roanoke Island. What were the English doing in America, anyway? Lots of stuff. In Virginia, the colonists were largely there to make money. In Maryland, the idea was to create a a colony for Catholics who wanted to be serfs of the Lords Baltimore. In Massachusetts, the Pilgrims and Puritans came to America to find a place where they could freely persecute those who didn't share their beliefs. But there was a healthy profit motive in Massachusetts as well. Profits were thin at first, and so were the colonists. Trouble growing food and trouble with the natives kept the early colonies from success. Before long though, the colonists started cultivating tobacco, which was a win for everyone involved if you ignore the lung cancer angle. So kick back, light up a smoke, and learn how America became profitable. DON'T SMOKE, THOUGH! THAT WAS A JOKE! Tun on the captions, you'll like them! Directed by: Dani Menkin On the Map Official Trailer 1 (2017) - Documentary ON THE MAP tells the against-all-odds story of Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 1977 win of the European Cup. Through the conduit of sports, ON THE MAP presents a much broader story of Israel and the Jewish people during the Cold War. The film recounts how the underdog Israeli basketball team prevailed over CSKA Moscow (known in the West as “Red Army”) – a team that refused to play against Israel. Moments after this highly charged and historical win, Israeli-American basketball hero Tal Brody captured the heart of the young nation when he famously said, “Israel is ON THE MAP, not just in sport, but in everything.” Told through the eyes of six American basketball players who joined Maccabi Tel Aviv and helped shape the team that beat Russia, and featuring interviews with NBA iconic legends Bill Walton and David Stern, ON THE MAP combines the pulse pounding action of a high-stakes game with an incendiary political situation to deliver a film that mesmerizes fans of the game and captures the spirit of a nation triumphant against all odds. ON THE MAP also features interviews with Michael Oren and Natan Sharansky, among others. CIVIL WAR, AMERICAN, SECOND BATTLE OF BULL RUN, ANIMATION ON A MAP Second Battle of Bull Run After the failure of the Peninsular campaign, Lincoln named Henry W. Halleck general-in-chief of the Union armies. The Army of Virginia was organized in June 1862. General John Pope, a former subordinate of Halleck’s, was put in command of the new army. Halleck ordered McClellan to bring his men back to Washington, where he was to join with the forces under Pope. Lee concentrated on preventing this junction of Union armies. On August 9, 1862, Jackson attacked Pope’s advance units at Cedar Mountain, near Culpeper, Virginia, and defeated them. Pope withdrew to the north side of the Rappahannock River and waited for McClellan. Jackson, with 23,000 men, swung in a wide circle around Pope’s army. On August 26 he swooped down on the federal base at Manassas Junction, captured or destroyed supplies, and then made a stand at Manassas, the site of the First Battle of Bull Run. On August 29, Pope with 62,000 men attacked Jackson. Jackson withstood the offensive, which was not well coordinated. Nevertheless, Pope believed that he had defeated Jackson and sent a wire to that effect to Washington. The following day, James Longstreet and Lee moved up to reinforce Jackson. Pope’s army was shattered by Longstreet’s artillery and infantry and fled in disorder. Lee pursued and tried to cut off Pope’s retreat the next day at Chantilly. Pope, thoroughly and humiliatingly beaten, limped back to Washington. He had lost about 14,500 men to Lee’s 9200. Pope’s force was merged with the Army of the Potomac, and McClellan again was put in command of the entire force. From Zombie sightings in Mobile, Alabama, to the scariest place in Romania; Take a trip through the 10 CREEPIEST Cities to Explore on Google Earth ! Subscribe to American Eye http://goo.gl/GBphkv 10. East St. Louis 9. Camden, New Jersey 8. Hashima Island, Japan 7. Namie, Japan 6. Sighisoara, Romania 5. New Orleans, Louisiana 4. Virginia City, Nevada Explore the entire well preserved ghost town of Virginia City, that we mentioned on our most haunted places in the US video. Besides some of the modern day vehicles, this place is exactly the way it was over 100 years ago and it’s the most haunted place in Nevada. Some ghost towns are quite as accessible on google maps, and this is one of the more detailed ones we were able to find. Ignore the motorcycles and get a good feel for how historic site would have looked, when miners were sifting the the hills in search of gold. Drop into the Silver Terrace cemetery for a creepy flash from the past! While we're on the subject of ghost towns, we’d like to mention that the city of Pripyat is available now for street view, but since nature has basically taken over the land again, it’s difficult to see anything because of the trees 3. Mobile, Alabama Mobile Alabama might not get too much attention when it comes to exploring on google maps but it’s actually one of the oldest cities in the US. Originally settled by the French, it was deemed the original capital of the Louisiana territory in 1702. It has a large number of historic neighborhood that can get a little creepy to explore sometimes. There’s just something about the trees and the old civil war style mansions on government street that you might find unsettling. But that’s not it, if you venture to the northwest part of town, it appears as though a zombie is glaring at the google streets car. In the abandoned parking lot of a laundromat, someone is all by themselves just standing there for now reason. Also if you got time, you can actually walk on to the USS Alabama that’s been retired in the Mobile River. This was one of the most prolific battleships, that shot down dozens of japanese aircraft during world war II without ever getting a scratch in return. 2. Bogotá, Colombia The capital city of Bogota is one of the most dangerous cities in the world and we’re still pretty surprised the google street car had the courage to drive through some neighborhoods here! If you visit the neighborhood of Altos de Cazuca, you’re going to see one of the most neglected areas in south america. The area is run by local gangs certainly aren’t afraid to get violent. The streets are not paved, there’s quite a bit of pollution, graffiti, you name it.You can also venture off to central Bogota for some virtual exploring and check out La Concordia district. The chances of getting kidnapped in Colombia are greater than anywhere else in the world. So it’s better to check this place out on google maps and maybe you can spot some shady activity. 1. Detroit Michigan Everyone knows that the city of Detroit, Michigan has been going through a rough time and many have fled their homes. This makes it quite the creepy place to explore, without having to feel as though you’re in danger. Not only are there an abundance of creepy abandoned places, this is also the arson capital of the world and no city burns quite like Detroit. So don’t be surprised if you come across some burnt buildings here. As you explore through this city in urban decay, you might not realize at first glance that some places are abandoned, until you look behind some of the trees that have grown in front of them. In the neighborhood of Ravendale 2 out of every 3 houses are abandoned. Some sources even claim you can buy an entire house here for 1000 dollars. It’s chilling to see how some gardens are well kept right next to ones that have become simply out of control!. What’s this Corvette doing here! Something seems suspicious! The Neighborhood of Northwest Goldberg was also quite prosperous at one point in time but all you’ll see now are graffitied buildings and abandoned buildings. It almost seems as though this city will never be the bustling motor city it once was

Rad-Wasp. There are Rad-Stags and Rad-Roaches, the only logical step forward was Rad-Wasps. Seemingly giant wasps that have been mutated by radiation. As with every creature on this list, we don’t know a lot about them. My assumption is that these Rad-Wasps will sort of act like East Coast Cazadors, since Cazadors evolved from Tarantula Hawks, a special of Spider Wasp. The problem is that the Rad-Wasp’s wings don’t look like they would be able to get it off the ground. There’s also some sort of hive or nest on the back of the Rad-Wasp. 9. Snallygaster. This little guy may be the most alien looking thing on this list. It’s skin is a pink-purple color, it doesn’t appear to have eyes, it’s back is thick and has barbs sticking out of it. There are also two smaller arms coming out of its almost hunched back. The real treat is the Snallygaster’s head, which houses its tongue. To attack, its tongue comes flying out of its mouth. The tongue is spiked, barbed, sharp, pointed, I’d keep going but I’m not a thesaurus. I would assume that there’s some substance covering the tongue so you have more to worry about than just getting hit with it. The Snallygaster also has two more limbs towards. 8. Gas Mask Guy. He, she, it doesn’t have a name yet. We only got a small glimpse at the probably not friendly fellow. It has a hunchback, oddly large hands, a gas mask, and a cloak which conceals its face. 7. Thing with Orange Eyes. I don’t what to even call this. For some reason I’m getting owl vibes from it, but I feel like I’m the only one who sees this and thinks “owl”. Because I wasn’t sure what I was looking at, I played around with a screenshot in Photoshop and noticed a few things. There’s still not much to see, but I think I see two legs and two limbs tucked against its body. Obviously there’s the two orange eyes and antennas. 6. Mega Sloth. From what I can tell, this just looks like a Giant Sloth. With the exception of some fungus growing on its back and some discoloration in the fur, there doesn’t seem to be any horrible mutations that a dozen eyes or hook hands. It’s probably faster than your average sloth, probably stronger, too. Sloths are not indigenous to West Virginia, so the one we see in the gameplay is most likely from a zoo. I hope it’s a zoo. Because zoos have donkeys, and donkeys are better than sloths. There may be hope yet for all three of us who’ve been wanting Bethesda to put irradiated donkeys into Fallout. 5. Liberator MKII. These 4 legged robots appear briefly in the Fallout 76 gameplay we saw during Bethesda’s E3 presentation. They’re a light-blue, almost cyan with a hint of seafoam green, robots that seem to attack in packs. They have an orange spot in their center cylinder that fires an energy blast. Liberator’s also have propellers that come out of the top of their presumably metal top allowing them hover while attacking. 4. Giant Frog. This is one of the new creatures that we get the best look at because there is concept art of it that was shown at E3. 3. The Grafton Monster. A West Virginia legend. The Grafton Monster, from what I’ve read, is akin to Big Foot just with a West Virginian twist. Descriptions suggest that the monster is either headless or keeps its head tucked close to its chest. The in-game version of the Grafton Monster doesn’t appear to have a head. It’s mostly a whitish color, is big as hell, has gigantic arms, and hands almost the size of a person, which look to be its main instrument of destruction. 1. Scorchbeast. This thing is… something. It looks like the Scorchbeast will end up being one of the largest non-unique enemies in a Fallout game to date. Not as big as a Super Mutant Behemoth, but still huge. It almost looks more like a dragon than a mutated creature. The Scorchbeast is likely a mutated bat of some sort. The wings and head certain give it a bat-vibe. Bats emit sound waves from their nose or mouth to navigate and find food in the dark. What comes from the Scorchbeast’s mouth when attacking.
