USA Paintings and Sculptures Paintings Museum in Washington DC The National Gallery of Art, and its attached Sculpture Garden, is a national art museum in Washington, D.C., located on the National Mall, between 3rd and 9th Streets, at Constitution Avenue NW. Open to the public and free of charge, the museum was privately established in 1937 for the American people by a joint resolution of the United States Congress. Andrew W. Mellon donated a substantial art collection and funds for construction. The core collection includes major works of art donated by Paul Mellon, Ailsa Mellon Bruce, Lessing J. Rosenwald, Samuel Henry Kress, Rush Harrison Kress, Peter Arrell Brown Widener, Joseph E. Widener, and Chester Dale. The Gallery's collection of paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculpture, medals, and decorative arts traces the development of Western Art from the Middle Ages to the present, including the only painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the Americas and the largest mobile created by Alexander Calder. The Gallery's campus includes the original neoclassical West Building designed by John Russell Pope, which is linked underground to the modern East Building, designed by I. M. Pei, and the 6.1-acre (25,000 m2) Sculpture Garden. The Gallery often presents temporary special exhibitions spanning the world and the history of art. SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/c/VicStefanu - Let's go to the world famous The Saatchi Gallery which is a London gallery for contemporary art, opened by Charles Saatchi in 1985 in order to exhibit his collection to the public. It has occupied different premises, first in North London, then the South Bank by the River Thames, and finally in Chelsea, its current location. Saatchi's collection—and hence the gallery's shows—has had distinct phases, starting with US artists and minimalism, moving to the Damien Hirst-led Young British Artists, followed by shows purely of painting. The gallery has been an influence on art in Britain since its opening. It has also had a history of media controversy, which it has actively courted, and has earned extremes of critical reaction. Many artists shown at the gallery are unknown not only to the general public but also to the commercial art world; showing at the gallery has provided a springboard to launch careers. When you think of bells, you might think of a call to dinner or sounding an alarm. But if you lived in ancient China, bells were used quite differently–to track pets and as part of funeral rituals. Perhaps the most striking: how they evolved into complex musical instruments. CGTN’s Frances Kuo is in Washington, DC.

These are pictures I took in the Sackler and Freer Art Galleries. The main theme of their collections is Asian art. However, the Freer has a gallery of paintings by Western artists, most notably James McNeill Whistler (the centerpiece of which is the very beautiful but hard to photograph "Peacock Room." The exterior shots of the buildings are NOT the Sackler or the Freer, just photogenic museums nearby. I took these pictures with my Canon EOS 40D SLR using the Canon L-series 24-105mm and 50mm lenses as well as a Tokina 12-24mm wide angle lens. Most of the building shots are high dynamic range (HDR) produced using Photomatix 3.0.

NYC GALLERY OPENINGS - http://nycgalleryopenings.com https://youtu.be/DYQSkRJ8-pQ SUBSCRIBE - http://youtube.com/nycgalleryopenings ABSTRACTION AL HELD, PAUL JENKINS, LEE KRASNER, YAYOI KUSAMA, MILTON RESNICK, 4 June - 31 July 2015 Abstraction is a summer group exhibition with works by Al Held, Paul Jenkins, Lee Krasner, Yayoi Kusama, and Milton Resnick. Born in Brooklyn in 1928, Al Held joined the Navy at the age of 16 years old. He began studying in 1958 at the Art Students League in New York and later used his GI Bill to attend the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris under sculptor Ossip Zadkine. While his earlier work incorporated some gestural painting characteristics of Abstract Expressionism, he eventually began producing works with bold lines and stark geometric shapes, becoming particularly well known for his large-scale hard-edge paintings. His work has been exhibited at institutions such as The Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; among others. Held died in 2005 in Todi, Italy. Paul Jenkins was born in 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended the Kansas City Art Institute circa 1936 to 1941. Using his GI Bill at New York’s Art Students League (1948-1952), he studied for four years with Yasuo Kuniyoshi. Throughout his career, he divided his time between New York and Paris. Jenkins died in New York in 2012. His works are represented in private and public collections internationally, including the Tate Gallery, London; National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C.; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; The Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; among many others. Born in 1908 in Brooklyn, American Abstract Expressionist artist Lee Krasner enrolled at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Art and Science in Manhattan at the age of 18 years old. She then transferred to the National Academy of Design. She entered into the Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts where her career began to flourish. In 1945, Krasner married fellow painter Jackson Pollock. The union had a profound and mutual influence on their respective careers. Krasner, constantly at arms with the male dominated art world, did not gain recognition as a preeminent first generation Abstract Expressionist until late in her life. She died in 1984 and left behind an ever growing legacy and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Yayoi Kusama was born in Matsumoto, Japan in 1929. Though she briefly studied painting in Kyoto, she was essentially self-taught and fiercely determined to become an artist. Kusama moved to New York in 1957, where she rapidly established herself among the New York avant-garde and gained international attention during the 1960s with her paintings, sculpture, installations, poems, novels, performances and film. Her powerful presence during this period has been influential and inspirational for subsequent generations of artists. Her work has been exhibited at hundreds of galleries and museums, as well as included in private, public, and institutional collections, worldwide during her extraordinary career. Born in 1917 in Bratslav, Ukraine, Milton Resnick moved with his family to the United States in 1922. A graduate of the American Artists School, the first generation New York School painter was brought into association with artists such as Arshile Gorky and Willem de Kooning. Though his early work is largely characterized by Abstract Expressionist aesthetics, he later transitioned to focus on heavily impastoed monochrome canvases that investigate paint’s materiality, process, and perception, dissolving form and image. Resnick died in 2004 and his work continues to be exhibited at and represented by major American and international collections.

On November 29, 2012, Skidmore College's Tang Museum Director Ian Berry and Associate Curator Rachel Seligman led a group of alumni, parents, and friends on a tour of 16 galleries in Chelsea, perhaps the largest art neighborhood in the world. Part of Skidmore's annual Friends of the President's New York City gathering, the two curators shared a broad range of what's going on in today's art world—paintings, photos, sculpture, and more—and were able to make connections with the art of the 1960s and 1970s. A number of the artists whose work they viewed have also exhibited at the Tang, one of the nation's most highly regarded teaching museums. As Austin’s largest contemporary gallery (over 7,000 square feet), we are proud of our eclectic collection of artists and our new museum-like setting. As the only commercial gallery ever voted “Best in Austin”, Austinites and visitors alike continue to applaud the colourful and diverse gathering of local, Texas, national and international artists. Gallery owner Joe Sigel opened the gallery in 1998, realizing the need for a contemporary gallery in Austin and he introduced a collection of works by Picasso, Andy Warhol and others. Since then the gallery has evolved along with Austin’s constantly changing tastes, and now carries one of the largest collections of the Secret Art of Dr Seuss in the country. The gallery also showcases original contemporary works that don’t fit any genre, from Byron May’s incredible 3-dimensional paintings on stainless steel to Paul Stankiewicz’s funky take on Austin’s iconic landmarks. With a rotating stable of over 40 artists, ART on 5th offers a wide variety of artistic styles to suit any taste.
